Interesting source ... Revell
But this seems to combine a few tales - the heavy equpment movement seems to fit with the Russians calling it a "floating Base" , but turning it into a target and sinking it 6 months later seems strange.
... and why mount a bomb in the funnel if you want to use it for a target ? - the object would be to sink in from battle damage, not from a scuttling charge.
Still questions to be answered...
I think "mount" is a translation error; I think it should be "dropped". Who knows?
thats allmost just crazy enough to have worked

On 14 August 1947 the PB-101 (former GRAF ZEPPELIN) was towed out to outer roads of Swinoujscie (former Swinemunde) by four harbour tugs and Soviet naval sea-going tug MB-44. On the road the MB-44 was joined by icebreaker VOLYNETZ and tug MB-47 and all three towed the ZEPPELIN to the scuttling area, where the ship was left at anchor. They were escorted by minesweepers T-714 and T-742 and diving tender VM-902.
On 16 August the scuttling began. Bombs and shells (placed earlier on board) were exploded to imitate and evaluate effects of attacks.
Later the ship was attacked by a total of 25 Pe-2 bombers; of 100 bombs dropped the aircrews claimed 11 hits, but in fact only 5 hits could be confirmed later. The day was closed by another round of on board explosions of prearranged bombs.
On 17 August the ship began to drift towards shoals so it was decided to finish her off with torpedoes. The attacks were carried out by TKA-248, TKA-425 and TK-503 (only one hit obtained) but the final coup was delivered by destroyer SLAVNYJ which hit the ZEPPELIN with one torpedo.
According to Polish sorces she sank in position 55o48N/18o38E.
What I listed for the battlecruisers was actually the specifics for the H-class battleships. They would have been larger than the Bismarck, but wouldn't have quite as much armor.
What I listed for the H-class battlewagons was what the planners hoped to eventually build. These super-ships would have begun construction in 1945 and entered service around 1952-3. They never got past the concept stage, so they were never given an official designation.
The Soviets should have kept the bloody boat and flown La-7s off of it.
Read "Third Reich Victorious: The Alternate Decisions of World War 2." It's a collection of short "historical" stories of how Hitler could have won WWII. One of the stories (titled "The Little Admiral")deals with the Kreigsmarine's carriers launching an attack on Halifax, Canada.
Thanks for the information. She said it was around April 1941-42 that the attack was to take place.
Thanks! Second such topic though, alas...
alas...

What is that a aircraft carrier for ants? That aircraft carrier needs to be at least 3 times bigger than that..........
