Why even do an anonymous interview with any reporter much less one like loathes the President. President Bush and the leadership of the Republican party have been very good to Micheal Steele. I'm very disappointed by his disloyalty.

Some of these neophytes get around a guy like Milbank, and they think they're going to get favorable treatment if they throw one of their own (or, in Steele's case, ALL of their own) to the wolves.

Then he compounds his boneheadness by trying to hide.

He's still the best man for the Senate, but he's exposed his feet of clay.

Neither of us started the tone of that exchange...and people had been posting "up thread" it was Steele for quite some time.

Well it sure looks like Mr. Steele has stepped in the dog Doo.

If the choice comes between Mr. Steele and Kweasy Mfume I still have to go with Steele, but he sure dissappointed me.
I already sent a few bucks to his campaign with the thought of another check later when he needed it. I think I can say right now that next check looks shaky.

Well, the Steele campaign has confirmed it, so you can now go ahead and believe it.

Well.

Steele Admits He Criticized GOP in Interview
Unnamed Candidate Said Being Republican Was Like Wearing 'Scarlet Letter'

Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele's Senate campaign acknowledged yesterday that he was the anonymous candidate quoted by a Washington Post political reporter as saying that being a Republican was like wearing a "scarlet letter" and that he did not want President Bush to campaign for him this fall.

Democrats seized on Steele's remarks.

"If Steele won't take on Bush's failures during a lunch with reporters, you can be sure that he won't do so as a member of the United States Senate," Terry Lierman, chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party, said in a statement.

As usual, Democrats had the most insightful comments but the biased mainstream press failed to report them in much detail. Senator John Thune of South Dakota was also quoted as wanting to distance himself from the Republican Party this year base upon multiple failures of the Bush administration in Iraq and elsewhere around the earth.

Good for you!

I believed the remarks were made by Senator Voinovich of Ohio. Glad to see you were insightful enough to name the correct Republican!

What kind of reply are you hoping for?

The GOP in Maryland is like the GOP here in California, almost non-existant except for contacting you for money you never hear from them or a valid candidate in the offering.

I can understand his frustration but like most frustrations, they are better kept to themselves not inviting reporters to lunch.
