I confess I don't know this guy. I just wouldn't be in a hurry to pile on him until I found out more about him.
Polish nationalism is understandable in a country that has been oppressed by foreign rulers for most of the past two centuries. Nationalism and antisemitism are two different kettles of fish. It's not as if the Jews represent a threat to Poland. There's nothing wrong with being a nationalist, which means you are proud of your country and want to defend it against foreign oppressors--historically speaking the Russians and the Germans (going back to the Teutonic Knights).
I never heard Gietrych to made any Anti-Semitic comments, all this BS about his grandfather is pathetic. He is not even rightist (as he consider himself, because ex-communists are called leftist) but strongly social conservative. He used to be populist as a oppositionist but since he became minister he is acting properly. This is true that Poles don’t feel for Jewish victims as much as Americans for example, I think that this is understandable. I think that a lot of Jews themselves care little about Polish victims, so what is the fuss?
Excuse me, but as a Jew who had family members die in Polish Concentration camps, I do not take kindly to your assertions that Americans don't care. I hope you're being sarcastic, because there's no other explanation for your repulsive statement.
