"Okay! Then state it clearly now.

In the event that no other viable and "better" candidate comes along for the republicans in Florida, would you support Catherine Harris over Bill Nelson in the general election?"

I'll go you one better,

If I had a magic wand I would make her Senator (not just a Republican, but her specifically) I would still like to have her fighting for us in the Senate, but wishing doesn't work in the cold hard world of politics.

There's only one republican candidate who could've been a better opponent to Bill Nelson than Harris.

To my knowledge, EVERY SINGLE OTHER CANDIDATE tested in the polls did better than Katherine Harris.

Of course anyone whose name was even suggested as a competitor for the nomination was immediately attacked by Harris' psychotic fanboys, who were convinced that the "evil Bush brothers" were sabotaging their goddess's candidacy.

There is significant fringe element of deranged Harris-worshippers out there.

would you support Catherine Harris

Most of the fanboys have at least learned how to spell her name.

Actually, the poll I saw (here at FR) had her opponents in single digits.

Who do you propose to run against Nelson?

Do you plan to vote for the Republican nominee, or Nelson?

"do you really think that everyone that no longer supports Harris, supports Nelson, or has become some left wing enemy, joining a media conspiracy against her?"

By no means. But there seem to be a disproportionate number of doomsayers here on FR, most of them from out of state.

Are you in Florida? If not, why such interest in this race? Is your own state in proper conservative order?

I predict that your predictions will prove to be completely wrong. We will be finding out soon enough.

In the meanwhile, I am actively involved in replacing liberal Bill Nelson with a conservative candidate. Harris best fits that goal. While I wish she had waited in the House a while longer, the gauntlet is now flung.

"Harris is through in elective politics."

You state this flatly as if it is de facto. It is most certainly not.

What do you have to back this statement up?

I'm willing to put $100 on my prediction. How about you?

What is the next political act for a Senatorial candidate who loses by 35 points?

She could become a female Alan Keyes, I suppose, if she truly wants to humiliate herself.

McBride. He's catching up to Harris in the primary, 35% to 16% with 38% undecided. Since the filing deadline has passed, he's what we've got. Nobody has heard of him and he's already doing better in the head-to-head matchup vs Nelson. He'd still probably lose, but I'm certain he'd do better than the other embarassing candidacy out there.

You are simply giving up before the race has even started. Not to mention making some pretty big leaps of comparison there. "Alan Keyes", eh? OK... Never mind that Ms. Harris has won every office she has ever run for.

Somehow you, like other disruptive and negative posters on this thread, feel entitled to just sit and snipe from the sidelines, while contributing nothing.

It's a good thing that Florida doesn't have to depend on folks like you to get anything worthwhile accomplished. We've gotten quite a good bit done in the last six years without you, that's for certain.

Why are you being so nasty? I said I'd vote for her if I lived in Florida.

You've got blinders on, Joe. Work for her as hard as you can, but don't get your hopes up.

Since the Bushes never warmed up to Harris anyway, why doesn't Jeb just resign as Governor and run for the Senate himself? It would be a great way to get more national recognition, and he could stake out his own views, agenda and record independent from his brother.

Man is that silly, you don't realize that a political forum like freerepublic discusses Senate races as a national issue, even congressional seats are open to national interest.

She sends me her campaign materials at my home, her gaffs become a black eye on the Republican party on national TV.

That Senate seat is part of the equation of which party runs the U.S., we aren't talking city council here.

Getting rid of Nelson is a national Republican goal.

"...why doesn't Jeb just resign as Governor and run for the Senate himself?..."

I agree. Your reply is the most sensible reply on the entire thread. Discussing KH is like discussing WalMart, SUV's, abortion, and Terri S. Everyone has their position staked out and will not move. I believe Jeb is the only possible way FL will have a Repub Senator.

"Getting rid of Nelson is a national Republican goal."

I agree. Too bad a number of folks on this thread are working to undermine that.

I'm not being nasty at all. And I didn't catch your comment about voting for her. That's a start.

But just voting for a candidate doesn't even begin to get things accomplished like the three consecutive electoral sweeps that the GOP has seen since 2000.

Blinders? No. Determination to work, even in the face of adversity? Yes. Because that's how elections are won. The only difference this time is the strange and prevalent negativism against Katherine Harris from what is supposedly my own side.

If you read the whole thread, the argument seems to be between Republicans and Katherine Harris supporters, but if you read the responses of the Harris supporters, they all seem to believe that every one, that doesn't support her in the primary is a Nelson supporter, or a Nelson troll.

I think this indicates a "type" among her supporters.

With her poll numbers in free fall, now down to 26% it shouldn't stir up so much irrational anger that other Republicans would support a different candidate for the PRIMARY to face the Democrat incumbent in the election.

The inflexibility of her supporters, strikes me as less about politics and more about a fixation on Katherine Harris, herself.

This personal fixation is confusing to those of us that are simply trying to defeat Nelson, with which ever candidate that can win.
