But it wouldn't be difficult to get the press under OATH to give them their SOURCES and then PUNISH the LEAKERS!!

I wonder if the NYT will go to jail to protect the leaker??

Or is that what the NYT is aiming at??

What exactly is the difference between what Pollard did and what the NY Times did? The NY Times' actions effectively constitute espionage, and that in a particularly arrogant and blatant manner. What could an enemy spy hope to accomplish more effectively, when the problem of getting information back to enemy leaders is solved by simply publishing that information publicly?

Why do we have Pollard in jail again?

I think the same way.

If a reporter or an editor at the Times obtained this classified information jumped on a plane to Jordan, entered the Iranian embassy and turned over the info to an AQ associate would he be in violation of the law? Or does the self-applied title of journalists exempt one from prosecution so long as the information is turned over to our enemies via the national media.

IMHO the administration has no choice but to go after the Times. We simply can’t afford these leaks to continue for who knows what information will be leaked next.

I have no right or reason to know the information contained in the Times articles. I do have every right and reason to know who in my government is leaking this information to our enemies and putting my nation, soldiers, family and friends in harms way.

Peter King On the radio yesterday said that the NYT writer should be hauled before a grand jury and be compelled to reveal the source of the classified information.

If they don't, throw them in jail until they do.

As I'm not a lawyer, is something like that possible to do?

Another consequence of this story and leaking of information is what Cheney recently said.

Foreign governments who are helping us with information will start thinking twice about it.

At least pull out all the stops and hunt down the leakers with all possible speed and diligence.

If there is action on this, it will properly come through a Grand Jury - not from comments to the press by Administration officials including the President.

Such comments could in fact nullify an indictment - and would be on the Times's playing field.

Which is more important, our classification system or the libs violating Godwin's law? We need to know who the leakers are. I don't think people have much sympathy for reporters who refuse to talk.

If President George W. Bush is serious about winning the War on Terror, he will aggressively pursue the enemy in our midst.

Targeting and defeating the enemy in our midst is, by far, the more difficult task and will measure Bush's resolve and courage (and his independence from the MPRDC (mutual protection racket in DC)) more than any pretty speech, more even than 'staying the course.'

bump

When the founders granted 'The Press' special dispensation, they never considered the possibility that traitors in our midst would game the system. But that is precisely what is happening today. (Hate America? Support jihad? Become a 'journalist!')

This was bound to happen.

The premise behind the First Amendment as it applies to the press--that a vigilant watchdog is necessary, sufficient--indeed, possible--to protect against man's basest instincts--is tautologically flawed: The fox guarding the White House, if you will....

If Dubya doesn't do anything about the NYT sedition, they will just keep on doing it. And count on several other liberal newspapers following suit.

"When the founders granted 'The Press' special dispensation"

That is a myth perpetrated by journalists. The founders didn't talk in 20th century slang. The Constitution talks about freedom of speech and of the press, meaning the printing press. That freedom is for all of us, not just journalists. There is no special dispensation for journalists. Everyone must follow the law.

I think this it--Justice should be agressively pursuing the leakers and issuing subpoenaes to everyone at the Slimes above the level of water boy.

The Slimes themselves would just love for the "government" to come after them--it would set up a genuine quagmire of legal chewing gum about three feet deep and derail the entire focus of the WoT with bogus crapola derived from twisting the First Amendment.

Bush is smart enough to avoid such a pointless and inconclusive fight, which would only end up in the courts. Much better DoJ should seek the leakers, and if any a-hole reporter wants to visit club fed for awhile, he's more than welcome to refuse to cooperate with lawful court orders.

Hey, the table has been set...the precedent is Judith Miller!!! I don't recall a lot of media SCREAMING about her being in jail......at most they "tsk tsk'ed" and really didn't care because they thought she was a friend of the administartion!! The MSM SCREAMED for the LEAKER to be frog marched in the Valerie Plame affair...they will reap what they have sown.
