2000?
"Except for a few (Spiff, Vicomte13), most of them come across as pitchforkers."
I'm not a BorderBot.
I articulate their case for them because they are going to put a torpedo under our keel in November unless they get something, and what will placate them is a sea-to-sea Fence.
I don't want to lose Congress and have to make a Fence a priority in order to get it back.
I want to appease the BorderBots on THIS side of a defeat, and a Fence will do that.
I haven't seen a rational and articulate expression of what they are really afraid of, angry about and want, so I have supplied it because I want to hold onto Congress, and they hold the key to that. "He who can destroy a thing, also controls a thing" was a philosophic point in Dune.
And it's true.
I am trying to give a voice to the BorderBots and present a clear channel to avoid a disaster, in the hope that the thousands of people who read FreeRepublic will pick up precisely that concept: GIVE THEM THEIR SEA TO SEA FENCE, AND WE DEFUSE THE BOMB.
I want to defuse the bomb.
That's all.
Man, you gotta love this logic.
Do you mean it was a mistake to vote for Reagan?
Or since we are talking about Dubya how about we stick to the subject and say I hope for another Roberts or Alito.
Some might argue that this opportunity has been squandered, but those persons would be ignorant of history, lacking understanding that change cannot occur overnight in Washington, and that this is the way our Founders designed our Republic.
I think I lost a $50 bet, seeing as you are still here. I think having the mods called on banning true conservative/non bushbots will cool that off for a bit.
Could you Freepmail me these attacks as well? I'm curious.
I'm sure Mexico is not providing us the manifests for flights coming into their country either.
Can't say I blame either.
Just because Canada is not watching those sites, does not mean they are not being watched.
What you are talking about is me. Who I am concerned about is those non-conservative Republicans who are willing to see God-hating, Constitution-ignoring socialists take power if they don't get there way.
I'll see your Souter and Kennedy and raise you Roberts and Alito.
"If the Republicans lose one of the Houses of Congress, not that I believe that will happen, there goes the funding for the Iraq/WOT program.
Do you think Dubya is willing to risk that?"
I think he IS risking it, but I think that the full magnitude of the BorderBot movement and the cost of its defection is not being properly registered by the decision takers.
Had Bush 41 known that the tax-hawks would never forgive him, no matter what, after he raised taxes, he would have stalwartly refused to have done so. But he underestimated the strength and depth of passion on taxes of the tax hawks.
Bush and Co. ALMOST made that mistake with Miers, but they got it in the end and pulled back from the brink.
I think they haven't gotten it yet about the Border, and are making the same mistake Bush's daddy made. Fortunately, this time it's easier to fix - with that Border Fence sea to sea - and they may get it yet.
Unfortunately, I think that there's a real desire to self-deceive that the President pulled it off with his speech. He didn't. The speech was the sum of all fears for those conservatives most passionate about the Border.
It made things worse.
Not unrecoverably so: the reconciliation committee in Congress could still give a sea-to-sea fence.
Tank and a half? We can only hope.
What are you driving anyway trubluolyguy, an eighteen wheeler?
LOL! Have you ever seen how spell check reacts to your name?
LOL!
It's better than that stupid $100 dollar gas rebate proposal, that would end up costing more than $100 per person to process.
:-)
Mexico has nothing that can compare with the Islamic centers, long and well established Islamic centers, in North Vancouver, BC and Windsor, ON. In fact, one Canadian MP just spoke of this outrage himself...finally figuring out that they could become targets themselves eventually.
"Just because Canada is not watching those sites, does not mean they are not being watched."
If would be far more effective if our good friends to the north cooperated in that endeavor so we (probably) didn't have to violate their sovereignty.
