Exacatly.
Some of them don't WANT the issue to go away.
I addressed this on another thread.
It's speculation, but I'll bet I'm right.
Agents spend hundreds of man hours tracking down employers and phony documentation. All for one arrest.
The Bush administration instead is putting their efforts into shutting down the phony documentation mills.
Now I know that is going to satisfy you, because nothing will satisfy you.
We're seeing an awful lot of paid opinion shapers here in addition to the thread jumper hysterics.
Better wait to see if they are there to stop the invasion or to protect the invaders from the American citizens.
Has anyone pointed out that National Guard soldiers are trained to kill enemy soldiers?
They are not Safety Sally's or Border Guards or Emissaries of Good Will. They are not substitutes for the Immigration Authority, nor are they the US Border Patrol and definitely they are not Smoky the Bear.
These points of illumination are sure to upset some "arm-chair Admirals and Generals" in this room, but too bad, That's Life Kiddies.
And since the "bait" said "plans", maybe all this High fiving and end zone dancing is a mite premature.
Bear in mind that nothing has been said about beating the living daylights out of Fox and the Mexican government.
Just might be a sound idea to keep our powder dry.
Most people would agree that the National Guard on the borders is a good start; but they also are wary enough to not settle for mere words.
time to put on the rally caps
Right. And will they be allowed to do their job or will they be hamstrung, like the Border Patrol and law enforcement officers that are not ALLOWED to arrest illegals?
Bout friggin time!!
Now that's a good idea
ping
I'll bet he's still going to go for amnesty.
well we've been preaching this for FIVE FRIGGIN YEARS and this guy FINALLY gets the FRIGGIN MESSAGE!
I'll believe it when I see the Six-bys flying down the Five Freeway in Southern Cali towards the border. LOL
And the funny thing is...a WALL is nothing but smoke and mirrors to a large extent as well (yet that is what you want). There are already large sections of walls across our borders and they do not solve a thing.
An additional reality is many of the new wave of "illegals" over the past 20 years (since R. Reagan's full amnesty bill with no requirements) did not come here via being "illegal" from day one. Many of them came here on "worker permits" and have simply never reported back and overstayed there permitted time - Thus they are now illegal.
A wall doesn't do a thing to stop this -
GWB is taking a 40 year in the making problem and trying to work within the current framework the best he can. That some on the "right" now are not allowing for good men to come to any differences of opinion on the best way to solve this long in the making problem is absurd.
GWB is a d*mn fine President and one hell of a CIC. This Country should be honored to have a man of such character and quiet yet steady resolve. These are two qualities sorely lacking among men of this world anymore.
Somebody must have spilled the beans in Mexico about Chinese troops, arms smuggling and Zapatista border jumpers.
We're seeing an awful lot of paid opinion shapers here in addition to the thread jumper hysterics.
My point is, any action to deal with those already here, from amnesty to forced deportation to anything inbetween, will fail as long as the borders are wide open. So it's pointless to even try and pass such legislation now.
Secure the border, continue cracking down on employers who hire illegals (i.e., prove the current enforcement uptick is for real and not just for show), and maybe in two years we can start talking about what to do with those already here and whether a guest worker program makes sense. I don't think it does, but I am willing to debate and compromise to some extent as long as we stop the flood first.
Hear ya, Ram ... but if he acknowledges the need to close the borders before talking guest worker ... and if has a serious plan to put military on the border ... it will be "enough" to turn the tide his way among conservatives.
At least among those conservatives he had any chance of winning back to start with.
Right back at you. By berating conservatives who have legitimate complaints and marginalizing them, you're doing far more to alienate those who may have come to agree with you that it would be a disaster for Democrats to win. You discourage them from getting their complaints addressed by their elected representatives. You poison the atmosphere with your insults, intimidation, and irrational attacks.
Comments by RNC Chair Ken Mehlman leads one to believe that he may finally be listening. The President's announcement of an immigration-related speech Monday evening which is rumored to include a call for some real security on the border (if true) shows that he may finally be listening. Maybe you should go off of attack mode and start listening for once. Just a suggestion.
No indeed we don't not until the borders are actually secure and illegals returned home. Then we can rationally discuss a sensible worker program based on our needs rather than illegals dictating what we will do.
Hey you want our illegals over here? We can put them on a bus and have them in your state in an about hours time :>} Hows I-40 contruction on you side of the mountain it's open on our side. Nice quick non stop trip :>}
