There are those that believe it was known to the French doctors and Palestinian leadership, but was covered up because it was potentially embarrassing (HIV related illnesses). This article may point to a slow acting poison, which some in the Arab world swear was the cause.

Well, it took awhile for the poison to work on Haddad. They waited a few years to finally get Yassin. If anything, it shows the Israelis are patient, resourceful, and serious when it comes to dealing with terrorists.
Big deal. Islamists should have been killed or kicked out of Israel long before that.

on one of arafat's last appearances on TV, arafat hands were being held down by some burly Palazztinians. When Arafat tried to lift one of their hands and tried to kiss it, it was obvious that they struggled to keep arafat's lips from his hands. They too thot he had HIV or Aids.
