That's price fixing.

No. That's price matching. Price fixing would be if she went to a meeting every morning where they decided to make the price a given amount.

Agreed. Both federal and state taxes, combined, are huge and way out of line, IMO.

If you think the energy futures markets in the US are beyond reproach, you are grossly misinformed.

How are they manipulated? I trade futures and have never seen any evidence. Congress has had hearings but found no manipulation. Accusing me of being misinformed is not a answer. Who is manipulating futures and how are they doing doing the manipulating. There are rewards for such information. I will turn them in if you have such information and split it with you.

What's the percentage of profit? That's the important figure, not some absolute number.

We've seriously needed more refinery capacity for the last twenty years. We need to remove regulation barriers.

"He has grown the SPR by several hundred percent since he came into office which I think is a very smart thing"

This is not true. The SPR capacity was expanded from 700 mbl to 727 mbl, and under last year's energy policy act, the DOE is supposed to look to expand capacity to 1 bbl. However, that is capacity.

At year end 2000, the SPR levels were at 541 mbl. At the end of 2001, this was 550 mbl. 2002 - 599 mbl, 2003 - 638 mbl, 2004 - 672 mbl.

Currently, the SPR contains 687.5 mbl (as of April 24). This amounts to a growth of 27%, not "several hundred percent". Capacity has grown only 3.8%, just slightly below the growth in US consumption over the same period.

Another point - even if a release is ordered, it takes nearly 2 weeks for this to reach the market, and the maximum release rates allow for only about 25% of domestic consumption to be covered. This leaves a large % of imports that are still needed.... any large disruption in supply would send a serious shock through the system that would make this current "shock" seem minor....

Good for them, tough to do when you operate with such a low profit margin.

Bottled water up to 5 dollars a gallon and you haven't posted a thing about that.

Wonder Why?

Actually, they're below - current spr levels are 687.5 million barrels, out of 727 million in capacity...

"Exactly what do you think he should or could do?"

LEAD!

He's been in office for FIVE FRIGGIN' YEARS now
and he could have gone to the people & Congress in 2001
and said we must do whatever it takes to get off the foreign oil addiction!
more refineries, more drilling, more alternative fuels and NUKES!
Just look what France has done with nuclear since 1973 and Brazil has done with ethanol...
gezzzzzz, if you want be to do his job for him, you're gonna have to put me on the payroll! LMAO

And your point is? What is the size of those companies?

What is their market cap?

What is their profit margin vs. other companies in other industries?

For you to compare a company's profit with a another company 100 times smaller,,,50 times smaller,,,ten times smaller,,,or even 2 times smaller is just ludicrous--totally ludicrous. Compare profit margins--otherwise, your logic ridiculous. You can't just look at the aggregate number without looking at the investment and size of investment that it took to get than number.

Your irrational logic is what gives the govt a free-pass on THEIR price GOUGING.

from what I understand, if I'm not mistaken, all the refineries in the Gulf are still not completely on-line...

From what I understand part of the problem going on now is that there were refineries scheduled for maintenance when Katrina hit and shortly after that were kept on line. Now they HAD to be taken down for maintenance.

He's done ALL of that, kelly. Those of us who have been paying attention know that.

He's not a dictator. The grip of the envirowackos on Congress is strong. He can't remove it all by himself.

We need some people with spine in the Congress. We need to DRILL IN ANWAR.

That's exactly what he's done, to bad his words fall on deaf ears ( congress and the Senate ).

(gezzzzzz, if you want be to do his job for him, you're gonna have to put me on the payroll! LMAO)

It would have been simpler if you had just said you were clueless.

What he should do is temporarily suspend the EPA demands of gas blends by executive order till congress changes the law.

That is short term .. just like last season he did it

Congress needs to fix the EPA Laws and regulations

But every time the Republicans try to do anything .. the Dems block it

"Good for them, tough to do when you operate with such a low profit margin."

As Americans shell out more dollars at the pump, the profit margin by U.S. oil refiners has shot up 79% from 1999 (the year Exxon and Mobil merged) to 2004. See a breakdown of ExxonMobil's Profits here.

hahahahahahahah.....I don't think so.

No question we need to drill in ANWR. But that makes the earlier point.

If the President can't LEAD enough to get approval for ANWR with a Republican House and Republican Senate--it will never get done.

He should be on TV EVERY SINGLE DAY--making his case for ANWR to the public. Even an address for the Oval Office in prime time!!

Anything that reduces our dependence on foreign oil MUST be done because of the geopolitical, miliary and economic repercussions of that dependence.

The President is saying the right things, but he needs to take his case to the American people--and do it much, MUCH more aggressively. He is only a few votes from approval, and if he would LEAD, not just talk--the American people could change those few votes needed.

Yes .. this bs pops up every season like clock work .. and then the Dems are out yapping about high prices

But when ever our side tries to do anything to fix the problem .. the Dems block it

Wake up people and start paying attention to what the Dems are really doing

"How about an Executive Order to build more refineries on a fast track, an order to drill in Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico and off california....??"

I'm all for that, but what we really need are giant wind farms off of Cape Cod... ;>
