I've wondered if the "potential voter" thing wasn't part of McCain's motivation. After all, he is from Arizona, where its rapidly reaching critical mass.

The next test will be to see if the government caves to nativist pressure and builds some sort of wall on the Mexican border. If that happens, I have substantially reduced hopes for our future. You have it backwards - stemming the tide of the daily invasion is exactly the step the USA should take if it wants to save itself.
Our borders aren't 'far flung' like the Roman's were. Why not explain to us why an open, porous border is a good idea to your mind?

I really don't know anything about George Allen yet. So I'll just ask you part of my litmus test for the candidates. How did Geoerge Allen vote on CAFTA?

I don't like that term "nativist". Unless you're talking about my small percentage of Native American blood, I prefer "citizen".

I'm not sure how he voted on that, I would have to look it up.
My guess would be that he voted for it, I would have.

I'm at a loss of words really That's because you haven't yet considered all the alternatives. You're locked in a stage where you're still fighting the tide. Once you learn to accept the difference between what you want and what is, then you'll be ready to deal with possible outcomes.
Consider what is commonly voiced on this board: build a wall/fence, deport all illegals, and cut-off all funding and enforce hiring laws to encourage the others to return home. Likelihood of occuring: -0- Result: 20m illegals today, 50m+ tomorrow.
OK, so here they are. Now what are we going to do about it? Accept a rump US with the SW lost to either Mexico or some sort of Aztlan? Or, show just a little glimmer of our forefathers' initiative who built and expanded this country through arms & treaties against the British, French, Mexicans, Spanish & Native Americans?
Btw, private property & contract enforcement aren't end results; they are a core basis of law from which all economic activity results. A Mexico under US rule of law wouldn't be a 3rd world country; it would be a poor province (much like the South was) ripe for improvement.

says volumes about Mexico itself
Mexico's GDP is # 10 of the approximately 210 UN members.
What's going on in Mexico is ethnic cleansing and racism is the root cause.
The wealthy, Spanish descendants, who have always believed they were superior to the Amerindians are simply cleansing Mexico of their "undesirables."

CAFTA is for open borders. With the eminent domain laws coupled with CAFTA we are sunk as a nation. According to CAFTA, we have to treat any foreigner coming to the U.S. just like he is an American citizen. A foreigner will also have the right to seize your property if he wants it to make money. Of course, to me this is all unAmerican. However, it seems some people don't mind secret tribunals, unelected secretariats, unelected ministers.

I think the defeat of the amnesty bill in the Senate has toned down the rhetoric in a big way. In recent demonstrations, where have all the Mexican flags gone?

Whowever is in charge of the Immigration Department needs to be fired for not upholding the law. The USA has been invaded by people who are so sure that they can get away with it.

a popular initiative like immigration enforcement does not have a zero chance of passing Are you a Californian? I don't recall the US having an initiative process. Border security and employment law are not being enforced by a Republican president - do you think a Dem will be any better?
Annexing Mexico, however, is so far beyond the realm of the possible
There will be political union with Mexico sometime in America's future - and long before any illegal is ever sent packing. It may not be annexation, but it will be in effect an open border. No different from how it is now, in fact, but at least it will be a 2-way street and the US will get something out of the deal.

And while these protesters hurl mean-spirited verbal attacks at their hosts calling them bigots and racists and intolerant Americans sit back and watch.
I'm afraid most Americans have been successfully fattened up for slaughter.
He's right.
Americans have become so "open minded" their brains have fallen out.

THE KOS-MALKIN-NATIONAL REVIEW CONVERGENCE

Scary, I know. But we all agree: The recess appointment of Julie Myers to head DHS's Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement sucks. It's a bad move--especially now, when the White House is touting its commitment to fighting the War on Terror and securing the homeland. To quote VP Dick Cheney: "Either we are serious about fighting this war or we are not."
Myers' recess appointment, sorry to say, is a joke.
