Yes, I do believe Natalee Holloway was from Mountain Brook - it's a very nice area.

Thanks, yet again!

Yep. Gotta have that 4-bean salad. Isn't it great to discuss something light and frivilous for a change?

This thread has either been on or off its meds....its all over the place!

Its been like "Coffee Talk"....we've thrown open the window and talked to the neighbor across the alley who has thrown their window open, too!

"We're good like that."

they might have something against Christians? Liberals hate politically incorrect Christians and don't hide it. Liberal Christians are the most hateful and intolerant of all.

If they have something against Christians it's probably a certain culture of Christians, remember they are going to a Christain Collage or lets say a Christian Collage by name. I doubt if these kids are very much up on Christian spiritual stuff. Probably deep down in there soul you probably could find they do have something against true Christians, whether they would recognize it them self.

Not to apply that the people who went to those Churches were true or false Christians, they just so happen to go to the Churches that were in these teenagers path.

I went to high school with some of the Twitty family, and they were fairly well off. I don't know about this particular part of the family, though.

There were what I would call working well off. Marcia was high up at Baptist, but she was a working mom.

I think Jug's house was originally in Cahaba Heights, and was annexed in. It's a nice brick home, but it's not like some of the nicer homes in MB.

I don't say that to slight them in anyway. I just got tired of people claiming they were getting special treatment because they were rich white people when in fact, they both had to work to maintain their standard of living.

the prevailing culture (Christian) of the school.

The school was founded by methodist, but it's a big party/drinking school, very anti war, very liberal.

I believe Natalee is dead. I think it's so sad. Maybe they didn't mean to kill her, but I believe that they did something with her body.

Just getting caught up on the day's news. Y'all have been busy adding to this story! Haven't followed all the posted new links yet, but have a couple more to add:

This one's the federal complaint - it's a pdf, so Acrobat reader is needed. I was a bit surprised at how the Feds had to classify the one church as engaging in interstate or foreign commerce to make the fed charge. I would think just by being a part of the national Baptist network, whichever convention they belonged to, that would qualify the arson as a federal crime, but I guess not. Here's the complaint:

.....

Now this is good. Did you all read that DeBusk and Moseley had been written up in a big story in the BSC Hilltop newspaper on the very day they were arrested? The story was all about the film they were going to be in (a "youth violence project"!) and all their acting experience. How bizarre - they were arrested later in the day that this appeared. Now someone has the actual newspaper for sale on eBay, lol!

Here's the eBay auction description:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5675012832

And here's a close-up of the article so you can read it. There seems to be a paragraph or so that didn't get scanned, but it's pretty complete.

http://couldbemay.be/arson/images/article.jpg

Note that the director who hired them for the movie called "Work" had parts for both of them in the leads, then there was a third character in the movie, named "Cloyd"! Surely, these two had input into that! Or, the director may be someone who knows Matt Cloyd, too - but he (Matt Cloyd) is a pre-med student, not a drama major. But was he going to play "Cloyd" in the film?

The "Cloyd" character is a Johnny Cash buff and freaks out over Cash's death, then goes on a drinking binge. One story today quoted "friends" of the trio as saying Cloyd started drinking heavily at the start of this school year. Interesting parallels, but obviously they had input into the writing of this film.

That's sick! I think I heard of it too. I believe it was in the 1990s or something like that. Those Satanists corrupt youth's mind.

Probably because there is no real information upon which to base a credible rationale for what happened. Basing theories of motivation upon some pictures and the majors of the arrestees is very shaky.

Anyone know what the potential versus the probable prison terms will be? I bet two to five years.

I'll venture a guess. There is a murder case in CA currently with a now 17-yo defendant (16 when arrested) who was initially depicted in his most recent yearbook photos as a "goth" who dyed his long, stringy hair black, dressed all in black, wore black nail polish, always wore a black longcoat, a la the Columbine duo, and so on.

His former classmates and friends said he used to carry a satanic bible. People he lived with said that his artwork is gory and death-oriented, as is his taste in music and performers.

At his first court appearance, his hair was cut shorter and slicked back, none of the black stuff apparent. As we learned more about the kid, it turned out that the "goth" phase was something he had outgrown in the past year or so, although he still dressed in all-black.

There were some more articles about these church-burning guys yesterday, one of which said something similar - that the "satanic" phase was already a thing of the past. Although, it's hard to know that for sure, with the facebook message about the "season of evil" starting "again" just this January.

I'll post some more of the stories and links in a post after this one.

We need to find a definitive article about the possible prison terms applicable, because at first, everything said that it's a "mandatory minimum 5 years per count," which would be one count each for the 9 churches = 45 years minmum.

However, since then, we've seen that the federal charge is just for one church, but it was one that was burned by all three of the alleged perps. Also, I don't know if this 5-year sentence is just for church arson or for conspiracy and arson both, which is what the fed charges are.

There's the other matter that Moseley and Cloyd said they committed the crimes at all 9 churches, but DeBusk only participated in the first 5, in Bibb County.

I also don't know what the "additional charges" are that will come later, like whether the state will prosecute any of these or if they're all considered under federal jurisdiction.

Also, another article today stated they could potentially get a "minimum of 20 years" for the crimes. So, the answer is not as cut-and-dried as it was first put forth.
