I remember listening to 'Comfortably Numb' after finally finishing my last research paper for my college degree. One hundred pages plus. I was well and truly, comfortably numb.
The bagpipe player walking through the early morning mist, playing "Amazing Grace" at the Payne Stewart memorial in Houston.
"Selling England by the Pound" is pretty darn good. I think Peter Gabriel is on this one.
Snowflakes are Dancing, Pictures at an Exhibition..etc
by Isao Tomita.
Thanks for the recommendation. I bought a recent 3-disc Genesis collection titled "Platinum Collection". The last disc has nothing but Gabriel era music on it. It is also my favorite of the three.
I'll only report that some con-a-sewers have on their list, yes, Ravel's Bolero. Unnestan why?
You are sure welcome. In fact, you jogged my memory. This is a record I used to have that is so good I have to replace it with a CD.
Um, post 707 is to you. I goofed.
Another good choice for religious music, though to admit I am sick of the commercials on tv, is One Day At A Time.
Maybe you could start another thread on that topic. I would prefer to keep this one on what people consider to be "the best."
I saw something on tv that said the song was supposed to be "In the Garden of Eden", but the lead singer was so drunk, Inna-gadda-da-vida was as close as he could get to pronouncing it correctly.
Yeah, I think there was a thread on what you mention. Anyway, as someone else noted, this is a thread on people's favorites, not really "the best". What's best anyway? Sorry for interfereing. Cheers!
Why would he?
The sweetest musical sound of all the ages is when the angel Gabriel sounds his trumpet at the end of time!

Yeah, I suppose I shouldn't have used the word "best" but, what I was really thinking about when I first started the thread was "what music affects me the most, emotionally?" So in effect, it is "the best" according to individual preferences. Anyway, I said in an earlier post, any music that affects you emotionally for the better, is good music whatever kind of music it may be.
It is hard to pick one "best" song from so many catagories of music. Classical, rock, blues, r&b, soul, religious, jazz, etc.
Favorites are a lot easier to pick. How about one from each catagory?
A Trick of the Tail and Wind And Wuthering are two of my faves. That's because even though Phil took over the vocals, it was still Steve, Tony and Mike who wrote the songs. And I really like Phil's efforts at doing the Gabriel-era songs on "Seconds Out." I prefer his Suppers Ready to Gabriel's version. But "The Lamb" still rules! Hackett's leaving Genesis had a much bigger effect than even Gabriel leaving.
Go for it.
He sure was. Musically this was Hackett's best effort with the band, and Phil's drumming was incredible. Phil had a rare lead vocal at the time with "More Fool Me."
"Followed a sign saying 'Beautiful Chest' it led to a lady who showed me her best.... (Best Genesis lyric ever)
