"Bush wouldn't do this unless it was good for America."
OK. So, explain to us why this is good for America.
Propaganda?? Do they support Israel, did they support the Taliban, did two of the 9/11 bombers come from UAE, has money been laundered out of UAE and into the hands Al-Qaeda, have they come out against Iranian nukes...etc. I don't want this company having such a prominent importance in our seaports. The American people are outraged on this more so than anything since 9/11.
"We need to back the President up without question. I'm sure that he knows what he's doing better than you or I do."
Oh, I get it. You're being facetious. Please ignore my previous post. Ha-ha! You fooled me.
We should trust Bush. He knows what he's doing.
For once I completely disagree. Ever since our President won re-election his focus or agenda seems to have shifted. He knows he can't get re-elected again and I believe we're beginning to see his true colors. That isn't to say I'm not grateful he won his re-election but not because I think he's terrific but because he's the lesser of two evils. He's in the pocket of the CFR, he refuses to shut down the borders and defend our sovereignty and he, along with most other recent presidents, has clearly broken his oath to defend and protect our Constitution. Bush claims to be a Christian brother and only God knows a man's heart. So, I pray daily that God will guide his path and open his eyes. Right now I don't think Presdient Bush is listening to anything God has to say, for my $0.02.
Oh brother. This bizarre talking point, apparently designed to con the uninquisitive, gets trotted out again.
I missed Rush's show... what was his take on the deal?
IIRC in NY they will be in charge of the passenger ship terminal and a container port in NJ, not the entire port.
Hey Bush, thanks for making sure the dems win the senate! Oh, and we might lose the house and presidency too cause of this! Yay!!!
What a nightmare.
BUMP
I don't.
This just sounds like a bad deal to me..........
Yea, the Monarchy in UAE that owns this company doesn't seem like people we can trust.
They may be people we can work with to some extent, but that's not the same as trusting them.
Having a company owned by the UAE monachy run the business operations of an important strategic and economic assets like some of our major ports requires a level of trust.
However, I've already changed my mind from thinking this wasn't a bad idea to thinking it was a bad idea.
It's quite likely I don't know all the facts, and it's hard to find out the real facts in a topic like this.
It's unusual for Bush to take such a strong stand on something like this.
He's not much for playing political games, so if he really believes that the secuity concerns have been handled and the appropriate safeguards are in place, and that the UAE has changed from their past actions which could be reasonably interpreted as supporting terrorism, I could see him getting upset with others playing politics.
However, Bush does seem a little quick to trust others, and I don't trust future administrations to keep proper safeguards in place even if they are in place now.
I guess we'll have to see what happens.
"How do you like your president now???"
Most of the time, just fine, newby troll....
And George has got that under control??? You want to trust George on our border security??? George admits he likes open borders/ports...
Wait, the president has the power to veto legislation? When did this start?
I would probably agree that Bush wouldn't do this unless he believes it's good for America.
I think I read somewhere about it being Congress's (legislative branch) duty to control commerce between the United States and foreign countries and commerce between the states.
Now where was it that I read that? Oh yeah! Some insignificant little paper called the Commerce Clause, 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution. Didn't see anything in there about the executive branch doing that
Any professionals on here have an opinion on that?
"Looks and feeling are not the way to govern. That is how the democrats do it."
Thanks, that is exactly how I feel. I'm seeing a lot of factless posturing on this issue...one of the attributes of a conservative that makes me proud is gathering the FACTS and then offering opinion (which is why Dems are always the first out of the gate along with the media to pronounce or denounce something).
To have such a strong feeling before knowing whether this acquisition of a lease will have any effect on port security is premature.
They're popping up all over the place. I'm willing to bet that today ends up setting a record for "new" members.
