Gosh...if we really wanted to start a conspiracy theory...we could say that President Bush, Cheney, and Rove...knowing that Bush can't, and Cheney won't run in 2008....
AND, seeing that not very many (if any) GOP Congresscritters have even attempted to help get his Social Security or Energy programs, or (for better or worse) his guest worker program any traction...
HE isn't going to expend any energy getting the facts out on this...which, like you said...COULD be a loser public relations wise...but, in the end...not be that bad of a business deal..
I know I am just throwing stuff up here...but, just like the NSA thing..some of these GOPers, like Specter..who Bush campaigned for..IMMEDIATELY came out against him...instead of getting his POV first...
In other words, "Just trust the President."
The same argument that was used during the Harriet Miers debacle.
I see.
Hey sofa...I am feeling better ( I think). With the pain pills, I'm not feeling much at all. LOL
It turned out alright, didn't it....we ended up with Alito.
YOU people demand unquestioning support of the Executive Branch. I am under NO obligation.
The Congress set up a committee with the Executive to investigate the National Security aspects. They did THEIR job. Too bad the Congress decided to ignore that to grandstand for the cameras.
Congress acting political? Shocked, I'm shocked I tell you.
Yes, sometimes you have to think about how something will play in Peoria. It's a shame that the person who took time to think about this as a political issue was Chuck Schumer.

Peter King: Dubai Ports Company in 'al-Qaida Heartland'
House Homeland Security Committee chairman Peter King ratcheted up the rhetoric Monday morning on the Bush administration's decision to permit Dubai Ports World to control six major U.S. ports, saying the company is based in "the heartland of al-Qaida."
"By having a company right out of the heartland of al-Qaida managing those ports without being properly cleared or investigated, to me is madness," Rep. King told ABC News.
King cited "a number of reports about the port of Dubai itself, about weapons going through that port, to Iran, about corruption, and again about an al-Qaida presence. And I know there was no real investigation done on this matter."
King said he intends to ask President Bush to "freeze the contract [on the ports takeover], put it on hold, take no action till a full and complete investigation is done."
The Dubai company's ports takeover was approved last month by the Committee on Foreign Investment, headed by Treasury Secretary John Snow.
Over the weekend, both Homeland Security czar Michael Chertoff and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice insisted that the Dubai ports deal had been thoroughly reviewed and posed no threat to national security.
During an appearance on ABC's "This Week," however, Chertoff said he couldn't discuss details of the review because they were classified.
Rep. King said approval of the controversial deal was granted because "bureaucrats" had applied pre-9/11 standards.
"This is a classic situation, I think, of bureaucrats who just missed the boat here," he explained. "This went through. They were applying business as usual [rules] and they forgot it was post-9/11."
Unless President Bush intervenes, the Dubai ports takeover is set to commence on March 1.
>>It turned out alright, didn't it....we ended up with Alito.<<
Yes we did. Fortunately. But if Bush had his way, we would have had Harriet Miers.
Never forget that.
It aint about trusting the President. Its about understanding why this deal was made; information you can find anywhere if you weren't to lazy to look for it.
Okay. How's this?
Aerospace industry is next on list for Dubai's soaring ambitions
Not much else to be found except about the controversy itself, but this does give a little background on Dubai. Here's a snippet from the above article:
What American politicians are not able to do is to differentiate between liberal, open, economically dynamic Dubai and its conservative, moribund, oil-rich neighbours.Dubai has little oil. That is why it had to find another money-spinner. Taking city-states such as Singapore and Hong Kong as a model, the emirate has created a business and tourist centre, from a very unpromising creak and strip of desert, over the last two or three decades.
If the UAE is running the ports, they'll know how we run port security.
The Fox might not be running security for the hen house, but giving him an office inside with the chickens isn't a good idea either.
Good find. This passed through my mind yesterday but thought naaaaaah. Interesting.
Thank you...I'm still looking for more. If you spot anything interesting, please let me know.
Will do and you also. This could be quite the mess. Right now, I don't see a happy ending either way.
Me either. Right or wrong, I'm afraid Bush is gonna get hurt. I don't think he really cares though, the pounding he has gotten on every thing else...
Did you see Bush when he "waved the veto pen" (as someone else called it)? I think we got a glimpse of some anger. And who can blame him after the pounding he takes not only from the demos and media, but the kneejerking part of his base.
It seemed a bit to peppered with talking points. He also appeared to be telling his loyal listeners, of which I am proud to say I am one since Summer of 1994, that we should be more open to accepting the pros he offered for the buyout.
I personally, don't know why in the first place America sold our ports to foreign countries. I was astonished to hear that the Brits owned them before this sale to UAE.
I thought George Washington kicked the Brits out of America in 1776?
So when, why, and how much, and who did this in the first place?
Sorry for the late response...I have a feeling Bush is about fed up with this stuff. He doesn't have to do a thing but follow his conscience.
For me that's fine...I trust him. It is the "illegal immigrant" portion of conservatives that love to bash him.
oh well....
