It seems as though the main complaint is that there is too much ink on the story. Why don't we have a moratorium on all things VP Cheney and the shooting?

/sarcasm

The press "field day" on this is only hastening their destruction. They look worse, to the majority of Americans, by how they're covering this.

Yeah right.

Already, NBC's David Gregory, the George Clooney of the press corps, has been huffin' an' a-puffin' all over the TV demanding answers - multiple answers - about why he had to wait 18 hours to hear about the accident.

A: Because we didn't think you were important enough to bother with.

"When the next in line to the Presidency is involved in a shooting and they sit on it for 24 hours then you have to expect that this press corps will have a field day."

The local public officials were notified within 20 minutes.

I fail to see the uproar (not really, I fully expected it) by the media over not being notified 24 hours before the event, so that they could have cameras rolling to record the shooting.

Had they, they would have complained that they weren't given the right angle.

A complete non issue to any but the professional doomsdayers and Bush haters.

The Media arm of the Left Wing continues it's stampede toward marginalization. Have any of these people been in a medical emergency before? You take care of the patient. That's all that matters. Calling a bunch of people that want you strung up and happen to own printing presses and TV stations can wait.

But NOOOO, it must be evidence of some grand conspiracy against the American people. Of course. Yeah. It's Dick Cheney. It has to be.

You know what? I hope that the press pours EVERYTHING into trying to prove that there is some sinister plot woven into a hunting accident. That's it, squander your last remaining shred of credibility on it.
The rest of us will smile as they sit there puzzled at their board meetings trying to figure out why nobody watches or reads their stuff anymore.

New York Times 02/14/2006
Letters To The Editor

I want to express my total and complete outrage at the action of the White House in this latest cover up.

The White House knew full well that Dick Cheney took a poop in the upstairs bathroom at his residence
at 9:33 a.m. on February 13, 2006 and has yet to report this horrendous event of national importance
to the White House Press Corps. There is no excuse whatsoever that this White House should continue to keep
the American public in the dark when it comes to issues such as this that effect the lives of every American, no matter
what their station in life.

This latest offense against the constitutionally guaranteed "right to know" by the MSM is surely one more log on the fire of impeachment
that will bring down this corrupt administration and their unholy alliance with the fascist right wing conservative, bible thumping
anti-American segments of the population that allowed this "unelected" gang of thugs to take over our country and destroy our hard won rights.

Holding the story was probably a miscalculation but in the end, it's a big story for the press. After all what else was going on? Entwhistle's coming back from UK and Natalie Holloway hasn't washed up yet. Oh Iran did start enriching Uranium.

The oldmedia has all but come out and say "cover-up" "he was drunk".

That's the angle they're going for and hoping to plant in reader's minds.

The real deal here is this. There was a delay in the reporting of the story. This deprived the press of a media firestorm. An entire day worth of endless speculation from an endless line of talking heads. The parade of legal "experts" to prattle on and on as to the legal ramifications, medical "experts" endlessly speculating on all the worst ways this could go. They would have found a cop or two and asked them every "gun" question under the asinine assumption that cops are firearms experts. Add in a half dozen press conferences, interviews with every democrat sober that weekend then all you would need is a death watch for the victim.

Did I cover it all?

I fail to see the uproar (not really, I fully expected it) by the media over not being notified 24 hours before the event, so that they could have cameras rolling to record the shooting.

Because it was the vice president. And everything that happens with him is news. And continuous speculation by friends of Cheney on exactly why the news didn't get out - respect for family, not wanting to embarass the hostess, etc. - is doing the administration no service. I was watching Matthews on MSNBC last night and Alan Simpson was making an ass of himself trying to explain everything away. The 10 minutes later, Pat Buchanan of all people came up with the most reasonable explanation for the failure to alert the media. Cheney was on vacation without staff or aides and there was simply nobody on hand to attend to that detail of alerting the news outlets. Cheney himself couldn't do it. The Secret Service couldn't do it. So it fell through the cracks. Now if the administration had provided this explanation all along instead of basically telling the press to go pound sand then this whole thing would have blown over by Sunday night. Instead it gets blown all out of proportion. When if comes to the media this is without a doubt the most inept administration that I can remember.

Except the part about the Sunday talk shows not getting the story in time to do anything with it.

these guys are pissed because some desk jockey for the local pennysaver manning the phones on a quiet Sunday "broke" the story while they didn't get the chance.
Their egos are the real story in this non-story, story.
