Accidents like these are not all that uncommon when hunting quail or pheasant. It was not all that serious an accident and under Texas law, there is absolutely no requirement to inform law enforcement unless there is a death.

Two things:
1) Where they were hunting was about 100 miles from the nearest cop.
2) The police were notified at the corpus christi hospital, and found no problem with the incident, and left.

I have to agree with you, Cheney should have spoken to the police immediately. He should also have made a public announcement not later than the 24 hour mark. Sure, I like him too, but he couldn't have planned it worse for the media spinning. And as for the incident itself - Cheney is such a fool! Lesson #1 is no one, I mean NO ONE, should pull the trigger until they ID the target.

I didn't know that Vice President Cheney gave a statement. The news had a deputy saying that they were not allowed to talk to Cheney by orders from the secret service.

I am not a hunter, but from every thing I hear accidents are not unheard of. When I was a kid my brother was shooting at targets with his pellet gun. I rounded the house to see what he was doing and blam, right in the rib cage. I still have the scar and never let him forget the day he "shot me." :0)

Thank you for that information. From what I was listening to today the talk show host was almost hysterical over the fact that the VP wouldn't speak with the police. Cheney's an honorable man; it just seemed out of character for him not to do the right thing.

I was just reading the above links, and I hope that these statements will put to rest some of the nonsense that I heard today. Of course the idiot media won't let this go until the VP comes out and makes some sarcastic comment that will shame them all.
