This reminds me of a story an old-timer told me over 20 years ago. He was working on some special project that required a large block of platinum. They didn't have anywhere save to keep it and they were sure it would be stolen. The solution?... They used it as a door stop. Nobody ever guessed that it wasn't a block of lead. (Platinum is not a very attractive or shiny metal.)
