Well, I will admit I thought there were more Cowboys than the ones listed, although there are 13 (soon to be 15) Cowboys in the Hall including guys like Mike Ditka, Herb Adderly and Lance Alworth. I thought Harvey Martin, Too Tall Jones, Bob Hayes, etc. were probably in.

Oh, well. No doubt you'll get Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders and possibly Larry Allen in the coming years.

Umm, while I wasn't thrilled to see LT put in the Hall (for just these sort of arguments "He's a druggie and HE still got in so MY favorite druggie should get in too"), I will say Taylor revolutionized a position and was critical to a success that was 75% built on defense. Keeping LT out of the Hall is a little like keeping Pete Rose out of the baseball hall. Keeping LT out is like keeping Jim Brown out.

Irvin, OTOH, couldn't carry Jerry Rice's jock (and still can't). ESPN just showed a series of Troy Aikman highlights and do you see where he's throwing? One to Emmitt, one to Novacek, one to Harper, one to Moose, etc. Notice somebody missing? Can you picture a Joe Montana highlight reel without Jerry Rice? No doubt Irvin was a talented player but he's a borderline - at best - HOF candidate. The only reason he gets consideration is that he dresses like a pimp and runs his yammer like his pal Deion so they put him on TV so white America can laugh at him and tell him to shut up.

All those (Mike Ditka, Herb Adderly, Lance Alworth etc) did not play their entire careers with Dallas. They got the nod to the HOF mostly for their years prior to the Cowboys.

The only Cowboy career players besides today's Aikman and Wright are these five: Dorsett, Lilly, Renfro, Staubach and White.

There should be several more from Landry's 1960s & 70s teams.

I will admit Irvin is not Jerry Rice, but who is?

Yet with your above "white America" comment, I wonder if you know that Rice is Black also?

BTW did you ever read the Great Santini by Pat Conroy? There was a White America in it, too...

Is Carson the Giant who knocked Montana senseless in that playoff game? If so, I'm liking him better.

Yep. If Irvin would get in, a hundred other players should, as well. The HOF would have to lower their standards considerably.

Otis Taylor isn't in, and he was a better WR in every aspect of the game. Period.

How dense are you? Of course I know Jerry Rice is black. But Jerry Rice doesn't dress like a pimp and reinforce every negative stereotype whites have about blacks. He and Deion do for the black image what Terry Bradshaw does for Southerners - reinforce stereotypes for white liberals who run television that want to see themselves as superior to black people and rednecks. Elitism must always be reinforced, you know or how else can they prove they are elite?

Black athletes like Rice or Emmitt Smith don't dress up and act like assclowns on tv every week. They have too much pride in themselves for that. They outworked and outconditioned everyone on the field and deserve all the credit they get for their achievements because they did it with class. They don't have to go on television to convince people they were good.

BTW did you ever read the Great Santini by Pat Conroy? There was a White America in it, too...

Never read the book but it is one of my favorite movies and really has nothing to do with this discussion since you obviously didn't get my point.

"I'd love to see a list of retired players from the Dallas Cowboys who should (at least in your mind) be in the Hall of Fame."

ALL of them, of course.  LOL   :^D

Seriously,  there have been so many good players that it would be hard to pick.  I would have to research their stats, review their career history, etc., before offering a serious list.

Some of my favorite players that stand out in my memory are (in no particular order):

Cliff "Crash" Harris "Too Tall" Jones Walt Garrison "Bullet" Bob Hayes
Chuck Howley Ralph Neeley Lee Roy Jordan Charlie Waters
Jay Novachek Emmitt Smith Michael Irvin Herb Adderley
Don Perkins Mike Ditka George Andrie Jethro Pugh
Harvey Martin Drew Pearson Calvin Hill John Niland
Everson Walls Bill Bates Herschel Walker Larry Allen
Nate Newton Mark Tuinei Ken Norton Jr. Deion Sanders
Daryl Johnson Pat Toomay Cornell Green Dan Reeves

Those are just a few of the greats, IMHO, from "America's Team".

"no Duane Thomas?"

oops - didn't mean to leave him out - the list was getting fairly long & I was stuck on 'daydreaming' about some of the great games of 'yesteryear'.   LOL    ;^D

I'm sure there are others I left out that deserve mention as well.

"Golden Richards was one of my favorite receivers"

Aaaarrrggg!  Now quit that - I forgot him too, LOL.   Next you'll be mentioning 'Hollywood' Henderson (oops, did I forget him, too?)

There have been a whole lot of really good players that played at some time for the Cowboys.  Wouldn't it be great if we could put them all on at the same time (in their prime, of course) in a match-up game with the greats from other teams?   That's what real fantasy football should be able to do.

I don't hold Irvin's off the field problems against him, I don't think he was a HoFer. He was one of the many top recievers of his era, not dominant and never 'the best'. I feel he's borderline, I'd say NO, but if he went in I wouldn't say it's a travesty.

Irvin's contemporaries included Andre Reed, Andre Rison, Sterling Sharpe, Herman Moore, Drew Hill, Art Monk et al. If he is a HoFer then they all are.

They all aren't.

But can you see what I mean by Aikman...?

IMO, the 70s and early 80s were the golden age of football, my favorite era. The players of today don't compare to Walter Payton, Mel Blount, Tony Dorsett, Kellen Winslow... today's players need to show me way more than what I'm seeing from them.

That said "the experts" say Aikman is a HoFer, he's borderline for me, but I have high standards.

I guess that sort of my basis also.

Look at it this way: Your drafting professional QB's, and you can chose ONLY the QB's in Canton Ohio, the ones already in the Hall of Fame.

What round would you draft Aikman? Before Montana? Before Staubach or Bart Starr, Unitas? Before Otto Graham ?

It's all opinions, sure. And not a really critical topic either 8<)

But, before somebody can tell he is qualified for the HOF, tell me which HOF quarterbacks Aikman is clearly better than.

Hallelujah-Carson finally gets in. It was a sin that he didn't get in earlier. He was a man among boys and was a sheer joy to watch.

Opposing teams had the choice of runnng at LT or at Carson. They ran towards LT. That tells you all you need to know about Carson. He was better than Lambert and Singletary. I couldn't wait for the Giants offense to get off the field so I could watch the G-Men D smack people around.

He is a tremendous individual off the field. I ran into him at Babbages in the Garden State Plaza. We were both buying video games for our kids. I didn't want to bother him but when he saw that my jaw was on the ground he had this huge grin and stuck his paw out. He took 5 minutes out of his day to chat with a fan. He couldn't have been more of a gentleman.

I heard he went through some rough times with post-concussion syndrome. I wish him the best.

From what I read today in the KC Star, in the packet sent to the committee that votes on the nominees, there was a letter from Marcus Allen, as would be expected. But in the packet was also a letter from John Elway....this fact floored me considering how much DT placed Elway on his arse. But Elway basically said that DT could change a game in the blink of an eye and that you always, always had to know where he was on the field. I do believe he also compared him to the great LT.

I pray that he gets in next year as the longer they take, the less chance they have of making it.

yep - I did forget "Dandy" Don, sorry.
I didn't list Roger because he's already in the HOF.
See my post # 41.

(I knew I shouldn't have started listing all these guys - way too many to not miss some.)

I had a bet with one of my brothers during the '70s (after he had just moved to Dallas from KC).  At the start of each season, I bet him $10 on every Cowboys game, taking the Cowboys even-up, and $50 that they would make the playoffs, and another $50 on each playoff game.   Needless to say, I always came out way ahead and it only took 5 years for him to stop making that bet, LOL.
