no, the .45 is not the best fight stopper, at least, not with ball ammo. In fact, that load is well proven to be pretty poor at the job. the flying ashtray is not the 230 gr, 850 fps jhp, jacketed hollowpoint, either. It is the CCI -Speer 200gr, 1000 fps load.
15 very short “yards” maybe, and a very large “bull”. The M3 grease gun fires very slowly, like 7 shots per second, which a fast hand can match with semiauto fire, or even with a DA revolver. google for jerry Miculek, for instance, or search for him on youtube. you will get your eyes opened very wide. :-) the m3 is very heavy, at 10lbs +. It never was all that reliable a feeding gun, some of them were made with smoothbore barrels. It was strictly a WW2 emergency pc, like the sten.
We carried grease guns in the army when I was a tanker(1959-1962), hardly WWII. I was very good with one and never had trouble with the feed. Yep, they were slow firing, but on the other hand the Thompson was too fast, as for the M3 weighting 10 lbs the Thompson weighed in at 15.
Tankers were still carrying them at Ft. Carson, CO. in 1987.
