When I do have children I will watch over them and take into consideration dangers that may confront them, I won;t let them leave my sight when they are at a tender age.

We all have the best of intentions but reality is a bugger.

"You are a fool if you believe you have that power."

(I think) Mark Twain said, "I'm too young to know everything".

The parents should be charged with involuntary manslaughter. W-T-F do you let your 6 year old by herself with a large animal for. THAT is abundantly STUPID. When my 5 year old niece visits and I am with her, I watch her like a hawk.

Bit o' advice: don't have kids.

Either you will go insane, or your kid will. You'll be a quivering ball of goo by the time he/she is 3, especially if it's a he.

REAL parents do their human best to watch over their children and then just pray to God that He will take care of those things that they cannot prevent. I guess old Chogokin won't be sleeping once he/she has a child because only God knows if SIDS et al. will take them while you are sleeping.

Ok, you stand and watch. And I'll bet sh*t happens right before your very eyes.

I've seen a kid reach up and grab the handle to a pot of boiling water. Pulled it down. Fastest thing I ever saw.

Where was Momma? Oh, so close that most of the boiling water went on her. Where was I? Close enough to catch a burn too.

Kids are quick. Sh*t is quicker. That's why it Happens so often.

Now lets hear it about pot handles hanging over the ends of stoves......(sigh)

The dog was a golden retriever, not a pit-bull or a rotweiler. You can't keep your eye on your kids every single second. Its a tough story, but if everything is as the story states, I can't find fault with the parents. They already are probably blaming themselves. If we owned a golden retriever that we knew, I wouldn't have a problem letting my 7 year old boy play with it unwatched. Life happens.

Please. It was an accident. We have a year old Golden, and I am terrified of our little ones going outside to play with her without me knowing. Thankfully, they are well aware that she will pounce on them if no one big is around. But I can see how easy it would be for one to think, "She won't knock me down this time. I'm bigger today."

It's good that you watch your five-year-old niece so diligently.

See my post 136. I was no more than 6 inches from my child when it happened. Kids need to grow. I have a 6 year old and she plays in the backyard without me. I check on her often, but I'm not out there every minute. You need to protect your children but you also have to let them grow.

I walked to school when I was 6 years old! I guess if I had tripped on the sidewalk and hit my head on the concrete, according to Chogokin's ideology, it would be my mother's fault for not 'toting' me to school or driving me to the front door! To accomplish Chogokin's goals, he/she will have to homeschool and never allow the child out of their sight. Can you imagine how insecure and dependent on others this child will be?

Ok, people, children scream and make noises when they are in panic mode, being strangled ia pretty frightening.

Hello? You don't make NOISE when you're being strangled.

My niece has little scratches on her face because her mother lets her play with that cat by herself.

Well, I certainly you've told your sister what a crappy parent she is; after all, you surely know better than she does about raising children. If she questions your knowledge, you can just tell her to piss off!

I may suggest that Chog print this thread out on rice paper, as she's surely going to be eating these words if she's ever lucky enough to have a child.

I don't have to imagine, I've seen it plenty. It's sad really. I can't prove it, but I bet that those same kids send psychologists kids through college.

What was she doing near the stove to begin with.

They never disappoint, do they? :-)

I second your comments.

I have no children, but even I'm not naive enough to think I can prevent all accidents with my children if/when I do have them.

When I was a baby and learning how to walk, I fell and hit my head pretty hard on the coffee table. Left a nasty goose egg and bruise on my forehead. A few days later mom was in the grocery store. Clerk saw my bruise and was concerned that I was being abused, so she took the information off my mom's check and called the authorities. My mom still talks about that whole sitation. It was awful.

Anyways, point is, sh*t happens - my parents never, ever laid a hand on me, and both are terrific, God-fearing people.

In this case, the worst happened. Can't imagine what the parents are going through.

Why am I debating this with you people.

Because you're a know-it-all that's giving away advice that's NEVER BEEN USED?

Because people who've never had children ALWAYS think they know more than people who have them?

I hope you've given this same condescending lecture to your slacka$$ sister, the one with a kid with cat scratches on its face.
