If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

LOL! Pretty much sums up what government is really all about.

Raster, pinging you because, in case you haven't already seen it, I thought you'd enjoy this thread about President Reagan's quips.

So many great quotes from a truly GREAT man, but my favorite is,
"No government in the history of civilization has ever voluntarily reduced itself in size."

Present-day republicans should revisit this comment by the Gipper as the Republican Party (while controlling the WH, House and Senate) continues to grow the size and reach of government.

I miss the "Gipper"! Our country was lucky to have such a great man and giant of a leader. God bless Ronald Reagan!

A heavy bronze plaque with that inscription should be delivered personally to each and every 'Rat senator and congressrat.

And dropped squarely on their heads.

Thanks for the ping! I did see the original post, but the thread has grown a bit!

I see there are a few noobs on FR who aren't very fond of looking in a history book (comparing Bush to Carter, Bush 41 had no focus, Bush is no Reagan, etc.) and a few would be candidates for stupid quote of the month if it weren't for LIEberals spouting off.

Reagan had plenty of practice for his speaking abilities, and getting out his message. Reagan's life experience was far more extensive than G.W. Bush, but both will be remembered fondly when the lies and distortions are peeled away. The LIEberals still don't understand the greatness of the two Presidents or how similar they both really are.

The example I'd look at is that both followed DUmocrat presidents who had made a mockery of the office and this country. Both restored dignity to the office and the country, have had pathetic has-been presstitutes nipping at their heels since day 1, and stood up to tyranny when others would appease.

My favorite quote by Reagan is that communism's legacy will be relegated to "the ash-heap of history"...the same place where the DUmocrat party is headed today.

Glad you guys could go the distance. Your son will always remember that. I was 4 when President Kennedy was killed and I do remember; one of my sons was 4 on 9/11 and he will always remember.

Thanks for the ping.

I keep this on my profile page:

“Whether we are talking about pain suffered by unborn children, or about late-term abortions, or about infanticide, we inevitably focus on the humanity of the unborn child. Each of these issues is a potential rallying point for the sanctity of life ethic. Once we as a nation rally around any one of these issues to affirm the sanctity of life, we will see the importance of affirming this principle across the board."

"There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit."

Wise words. Part of Reagan's greatness was his humility.

Great idea. I used your postal service link to email a suggestion that the Reagan stamp should be reissued for the new 39 cent stamp.

GWB had the chance to equal or exceed Reagan's accomplishments. I just don't understand why he doesn't fight for some of the ideas he believes in, such as SS reform, ownership society, and tax reform.

Who do you think he should shoot first?

Government is ALWAYS the problem. And somehow it always manages to find some "war" or another so that people like you will stay in the cheerleading section. Yet, somehow or another, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and our liberty always take the hits and never fully recover. But you and your ilk are just too blinded by your worship of Big Brother to notice that. Pity.
