Heck, even ultra-liberal Senator Patty Purry (D-Wash) had to get rid of Abramoff money. So is Pelosi going to call for her head too?
I just saw the weekend "McLaughlin Group." The "Group" was unanimous: DeLay is finished. This was taped a day before DeLay decided to forfeit a potential return to the majority leadership. None of the panelists think that DeLay can survive the year. Several said that they think he will bow out of the race by the summer, even presumably if he is again the Republican nominee.
The "Group" also said that the public will blame the Abramoff scandal exclusively on Republicans. Even though Democrats have accepted Abramoff money too, it is Republicans who may be involved in bribery allegations that Abramoff will unveil to prosecutors. Morton Kondracke, only a "moderate" liberal, predicted that the Democrats would gain control of Congress in November. Not even former Gingrich aide Tony Blankley would defend DeLay in any form.
Why shuold he? Why should anyone?
Congratulations, Tom. You woke up with fleas.
If believe that if the Republicans had stood firm on conservative values over the years, and that includes Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and both Bushes, the party would be much stronger than it currently is faring and would not have nearly so many political headaches. Much of the GOP failures are self-induced through cowardice, poor appointments {O'Connor and Kennedy, for instance}, and appeasement.
bttt
I have a feeling you and I are pretty much alone in our thinking though...
Look, the writing was on the wall. I suspect we will find DeLay in Abramoff's little black book--the kitchen was getting too hot. Republicans HAVE to address their PR problem before the 06 elections.
I totally concur!
