(Denny Crane: "I Don't Want To Socialize With A Pinko Liberal Democrat Commie.Say What You Like About Republicans. We Stick To Our Convictions. Even When We Know We're Dead Wrong.")
i have made it an effort this year to say merry christmas to everyone i meet, including what appeared to me to be a muslim. well, he looked muslim and was working at a 7/11. no humor intended, its true. regardless, every single one has said merry christmas back to me with a smile. we need to adopt the old russian saw, you pretend to make good rules and we will pretend to obey them.
I'm tired of Christians embracing the victim identity. Sure, some companies in an attempt to be politcally correct have gone over the top with "holiday trees." But is it because they're persecuting Christians or have they seen a way to sell more Christmas trees by trying to coax the Jews and the Hindus and atheists into buying a Holiday Tree? I don't know and I don't care.
Most corporate execs making assinine decisions celebrate Christmas only for the buying frenzy that boosts revenue. I'm teaching my children why we celebrate Christmas, and I pray that one day they teach their children.
It's our Savior's birthday.
Besides, it cheapens the "Holiday Mood" (once known as "Christmas spirit") when Christians walk around scowling at anyone who tells them to have a happy holiday. I'm just going to smile and say "Merry Christmas" and be happy that it's my favorite time of year again.
Thanks for the post.
I think what amazes me is the effort to coerce what some people believe to be courtesy to others.
I have found that most conservatives are polite and friendly. I have found a very mixed bag among liberals. Okay, maybe that's an understatement. I find fewer liberals who can be thoughtful and courteous to someone with whom they disagree. When I find the ones who can agree to disagree, they are a rare gift.
Don't misunderstand my rant above; I am very appreciative of people of other religions who think, like I do, that Christmas is under assault. And I believe the assault on Christmas is more of the undermining of our national values by the left, and I value anyone who wants to fight against that, where ever the front.
But, I've got too many Christian friends who are "woe-is-me" fixated on this and missing the point of Christmas this year.
I've heard alot about the "death of Christmas" year after year. I'm glad someone finally assigns blame as to the reason for it.
I though of this last week, when I read the story about the church in California being investigated by the IRS because of an anti-Bush sermon by the minister...

PS. About 10 years ago, leaving Yankee Stadium, we took a detour through the Bronx to avoid a traffic jam on the highway. Went past the temple..It was now a mosque...There's a lesson there, somewheres...
I'd like to stop buying and have a minimal Christmas. Problem is I'd soon be divorced.
We live in a country with a lot of "damn fools."
The dorky liberal secular humanists don't think that suppressing Christmas is a problem. They think that it is the waning of Charles Darwin that is the real danger. According to this bizarre mythology, unless everyone is conditioned to spend hours upon hours tracing evolutionary monkey charts the whole society will languish under a new "Dark Ages." Go figure. Never once in my adult life has matching monkey fossils with geological graphs ever popped up as an essential vital emergency. But then liberal secular humanists are always trying to load people up with superfluous non-essential homework.
All things considered, I'll take the "Christmas Tree" and "Silent Night" once a year. The country will be better off.
I've gotten that idea too.
Changing a culture is freakin' hard!! My wife and I watched "A Charlie Brown Christmas" last night. It was made in either '65 or '69 and it's about the commercialism of Christmas. It really touched a part of me that I haven't felt in quite awhile. Sad to realize that there is no way a cartoon like that could ever be made today. I applaud the network for airing it. Anyway, yeah, I'd be divorced too, but I really would like to put a halt to this crap and I believe it all starts at the retail stores.
I'd like to think that conservatives are above indulging in victim fantasies. They feel good, yes, but they're corrosive to our culture.
LOL...the passion, and wisdom, of youth..
That "fantasy" happens to be in book of Revelations of the Bible. But I guess you simply don't believe that.
Revelation talks about American Jews setting up a new Inquisition to force Christians to renounce their faith? Really?
It is the ACLU, which is overwhelmingly Jewish in terms of membership and funding, that is leading the attack against Christianity in America.
It is Jews who worship a golden calf and have turned their backs on Mosaic Law!
Nuclear Option Ping
I watched Charlie Brown last night as well. Even though I have it on tape I always watch when it airs on TV. It is sad to think that this couldn't be made today. The left always moans about censorship when they can't air their smut but the true censorship involves any program with a hint at traditional Christmas celebrations.
