Come to think of it, after looking over everyone's picks, Hollywood sucks, period, but particularly when it comes to making military shows. Goes hand-in-hand with their hatred of all things having to do with the American military (they idolize the military organizations of communist countries, however).

No, I didn't until you mentioned it. Now I do...and I have to say that a subliminal memory of guys in a light-dimmed compartment looking up and waiting for the next depth charge probably influenced my decision to stay in the surface Navy... :-)

F-Troop with corporal Agarn, Sgt O'Roarke and the scentry tower that was shot down every week. Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa. My father (WWII vet) just never tired of seeing it topple. Would laugh outloud every time.

All time worse quip from that show was from Agarn -- "Any palimino is a palomine-o".

I thought NBC did it. I'm pretty sure it was the NBC orchestra that did the music. That's back in the day when networks had their own symphony orchestra.

Someone help me here. I believe that Combat was not the only World War II based series on about that time. I vaguely remember another show about the same time based on the exploits of an infantry company in the ETO but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the show.

You just watch Red Cap to see Tamzin. Is it still on, haven't seen it in a while.

Sadly, no. It ran two seasons and the BBC claimed they couldn't justify the expense of producing more. It's maddening because many plotlines/characters were developing. As usual, there was more going on in 1 episode than in 10 of some American shows. Tamzin is a looker - we loved her on EastEnders as well. Her vaunted movie career seems stalled. She has a movie with Wesley Snipes in the can but it appears DOA in terms of distribution.

I guess if I'm going to be serious about this question, I have to say "Victory at Sea." The grand musical score by Richard Rodgers was an added bonus.

Tour of Duty. The opening credits where Paint it Black starts the instant the soldier releases the charging handle on his M16 is probably one of the best opening sequences ever produced for a television show.

The director responsible for Vic Morrows death was John Landis who co produced with Steven Spielberg.

The accident occurred be because flash pots placed too close to the low flying chopper blew out the air cushion and the helicopter fell like a rock.

I have all 3 seasons of Tour of Duty on DVD. It really is very well done for a TV show and very much underrated.
