I think that a lot of Iraqi troops have died in roadside bombs...we just don't pay as much attention when it is reported...and of course the MSM doesn't stress those deaths like they do American deaths...

As to why these particular Marines were doing this mission, I am as confused as you are...and I am sure the Commanders are checking this out from the down, up....

I don't know if WE will ever find out more about it..but, hopefully the families of the Marines that died will.

Thank you for the update. I just weep inside for these other families and it is tears mixed with pride of their service. See my tagline.

TS - subject aside - you wrote "I LIVED in 29 Palms for a while about 30 years ago". Did you ever think you would be talking about events in your life as being 30 years ago? :o) Sorry but it reminded me of a conversation I had yesterday.

You express many disagreements with this administration and their conduct of the war. Should members of congress not be allowed to do the same?

Actually L.P....Phil D has been rather quiet in the complaint department.
If he ventures to make coment....its after voluminous hours spent at FR supporting the Troops and the Bush Administration.
If you want a good Monday night Armchair general.....Phil's a good pick and someone to listen too.
Corporate Interest has entangled and is entangling the U.S. in the Mid east and elsewhere.
We chewed it down...and let the Miserable Saudi's off the hook on a pledge by them that they would help.
They are treacherous Muslims.....and now they [Saudi Arabia and Jordan and Arab League] push money and political bolster into Sunni Dirtworld Iraq,
Cuz they are not really on our side....they are in it for their Islamic sect.
If Iraq should devolve into chaos for a time with Democracy hanging by a thin strand,
It will be because these went for Civil war and their sect....with Iran doing what it can to make Sadar their guy in the south.

Congress is full of two headed Janus's who stare at weathervanes....instead of at the Nations Flag.
Murtha [Mother of all Janus's]....he has spent how long lobbying for U.S. to go bash China.
Now he sobs on the T.V. and tries to decieve the U.S. public that he has better read from the Troops and command than does President Bush.

These weathervane watchers have shown they do not have the Right Stuff.
Gideon Dedux.....send them home if they are stupid and afraid.
President Bush has broken up a nuclear assembly line from North Korea to Libya.
There are probably near 200-400 Cruise missiles and ballistic missiles sitting on assembly lines awaiting micro nuke warheads.
Even treacherous Pharaoh Hoser Mubarak has these collecting dust in Egypt.

Its only been a few years....and look at all the turn coats and treacherous ones which have raised their heads.

The U.S. made many mistakes in the early years of WW-2.
They made changes on the fly and saw ahead [IE...The Marshall Plan].
It has succeded fantastically despite the surrender/callabo Froggies.

The U.S. is trying similar path in Mid east.
It will take time....their will be periods when things look like they have failed.
But We will prevail over Islam,Russia and two headed Janus's.

We were never supposed to rebuild a real Iraqi Army according to what the military and Bremer had planned. Maybe 40,000 men to concentrate on limited non war fighting tasks while we defeated the insurgency. The decision to build a real Iraq Army was made in May of 2004 after Sadr's uprising and Fallujah.

Baiscally, were origionally supposed to fight this insurgency all by ourselves and because of that decision we lose about a year and a half before we really started to build the Iraqi Army. The military and civilian leadership is not infallible and I see no problem whatsoever with people who critique decisions and offer their own advice. A few people on this thread seem to want to ban offering different ideas. They might as well ban critiques on the President's immigration policy while one is at it.

Advice in war time is vital. Criticism of the mission itself is not.

In fact, Iraq's American overseers at first never planned to reassemble much of an Iraqi army. The plan was to field a 40,000-man army, one-tenth the size of the old one, only by 2006. Iraqi troops would concentrate on tasks such as disarming land mines while U.S. troops handled the fledgling insurgency, then-senior U.S. military adviser Walter Slocombe said in June 2003.

When has a road bomb taken out an Iraqi patrol?

It happens more than you know obviously. The MSM just doesn't cover their deaths because it is not news. Here's an incident that happened today, i.e., 19 Iraqi soldiers killed by a roadside bomb. The Iraqi army and police losses are far greater than ours. They are also blown up at recruiting centers.

"At least 19 Iraqi soldiers have been killed in an attack by militants in the area of Adhaim, 100km north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. A roadside bomb exploded as an army convoy was passing before the vehicles came under heavy gunfire."

"Last month six Iraqi police died and another 10 were wounded as insurgents attacked a checkpoint in Buhriz, near the city."

FYI: There have been 2397 Iraqi military/police KIAs in 2005 and an estimated 5330 civilians killed.

I was terribly disappointed we didn't carpet bomb Fallujah and any other problem locale of the Sunni Triangle

Me too. See my tagline.
