Yes, PMMD81 is her FReeper screen name. She's a coworker and we are cube-bound with a firewall that blocks many of the news sites.
This is Dusty's second trip to Iraq. He was one of the liberators of Fallujah during his first tour. The unit he is attached to is stationed in Fallujah now.
As is the practice when his group gets ready to "go out", he let his mom and wife know a few days ago that he would be gone for a week or so. That helps them know why he isn't calling.
This kind of news is understandably disturbing for her. But I actually think his group went to Ramadi. Small comfort, but it would mean he is not involved this one incident.
It would be great if we were looking at one battle to win or lose on this war. But, what it has become is a policing action. And, the only question is how long we wait to allow the Iraqi to be the main police officers on the street instead of US forces.
Tell her we are thinking about her....and could you please let us know if/when she finds out something about her son???
Nevertheless, what I was talking about was, as I plainly stated, false charges of 'celebrating the death of our troops.' Since you can't follow that one into the net, I guess you decided to move the target.
Amazing. One more difference in WW2 & now. My mom was talking last week about how long the mail would take when my dad was overseas. And now, the mom and wife will get immediate word from their soldier if he is going to be beneath the radar for a time.
May God bless and keep safe this soldier and his family that you speak of. I well know his mother's anguish and worry. It is good she has a friend in you.
Are you sure this is true? I see the Sunnis as a very organized armed force, with the training and personnel necessary to take over Iraq again in any civil war. The Shiites seem disorganized.
So mad I could spit. God bless our poor men, fighting this PC war.

The Kurds are well armed and can field a considerable army. The Shia have their own militias, which have been being restrained by Sistani.
But in any contest, the Sunnis are only 20% of the population. They have the Ba'athist organization, and a few tribes, but they'd be facing all the rest of the country.
(Read: CSA versus USA, without any rules or nice-guy stuff, and you get the picture)
The Shia are sheep and would get walked over by the Sunnis.
The Sunnis have ruled Iraq for hundreds of years for a reason.
Now this is the kind of story the MSM relish 'planting'.
Condolences to all those who lost loved ones in this latest attack on the true 'freedom fighters' in Iraq.
Thank you for being there for PMMD81. The fear she is feeling is unfathomable for those who have not experienced it. I know that fear ... from a military wife's perspective. (My husband has deployed 4 times in support of the WOT.) Please tell PMMD81 that the chances of her son being involved in this incident are very low at this point. If he had been a casualty, she and her family would, in all likelihood, have been contacted by now. The military is very good about shutting down all communication coming out of the area of operations when an incident like this occurs and contacting family members before publicly announcing casualties. My thoughts and prayers go out to PMMD81. And thank you again for being there for her.
In case of a civil war the Kurds would break away and it would be the Shia vs the Sunnis. The Sunnis with support of nearby countries would do quite well, but not well enough to fight off the Iranian Army and the Shia.
It likely could degenerate into a bloody stalemate in the middle of Iraq.
Do not get this negative attitude because we do not have yet a full solution for the IED problem. The IEDs cannot defeat the most powerful military in history of man and we will eventually annihilate the terrorists in Iraq. We are becoming so sensitive to casualty despite that our casualties in Iraq are incredibly low in numbers. The terrorists are counting on us not being able to sustain few thousands dead troops but they are fatally mistaken.
Pull your head out of the sand buddy.
Its possible to have a strong democratic leader. We had Washington. If it wasn't for him, the South might not have been as enthusiatic about the Revolution.

I have to say....that after that incident that I described earlier in this thread...whenever I see her on Fox...the channel is changed...
I never liked her before...but what she did that day SHOULD have caused her to lose her job at Fox, IMHO.
I'll be praying for her. My wife has problems with my son's decision. But it is his to make and we are both very proud of him.
