As if you haven't noticed that the state has been 'criminalizing' smoking for some time now. The smoker population is dwindling. Smokers will be a very small population in the near future. Can we say the same about the gay lifestyle? In fact, it is the inverse. It is being promoted everywhere you can imagine.
If you redefine marriage once to meet the demands of one special interest group, then on what logical, rational, reasonable, legally consistent basis do you refuse demands by successive special interest groups to redefine marriage again (and again) to incorporate their lifestyles?
Polygamists, polyamorists (group marriage), bestiality practitioners, etc., etc...
