"Mary, no hard feelings? Even in forced retirement, Mapes continues her legacy of accuracy, as neither Powerline, nor Spacetown, nor INDC Journal worked anonymously during the scandal. I invite everyone to revisit my September archives and peruse the "wild and hateful claims" made by INDC. Good times.
"I will grant her one thing - the "school of sharks" analogy is pretty accurate, though her description of a helpless victim (a multi-million dollar respected professional news organization) is a bit ... off. And let's not forget who chummed the water."
This makes my brain hurt.
There is one central fact in all this. The document was a forgery. Period. How Mary and Dan continue on with anything but apology? They cry, they whine, they blame others, the attempt to engage in revisions... incredible.
They have to be from another planet than me. I don't get it.
Gotta get moving ...strapping on my shark fin
The beauty of this thread is that you know the little whining brat's going to be reading it. So this little synopsis of your rant is for you, Mary - free of charge. You can use this condensed version of your whining for your booktour publicity newsletters:
"There I was, innocently smearing a sitting President right before an election with false information (standard and accepted procedure at CBS) - when I was suddenly attacked by vicious Free Republic members - who had the audacity to post fact after fact - which totally destroyed my prosecution. I gasped, I sagged, I slumped on the floor...sighing, crying, heaving, upchucking, soiling myself. 'How could this happen to me?' I thought, 'I'm Mary Mapes, Mistress of the MSM universe, beyond question or reproach. It says so in the CBS charter. And I didn't do anything I haven't done my whole career, or anything anybody else is doing right now!'"
Then...the awful truth hit me. I fainted, I burped, I swooned, then drooled face down on the prickly CBS boardroom carpet. I had been set up. Rove and Free Republic had masterminded the whole thing!!!" ...
Actually, I thought we were a fierce, warlike tribe of ... internet brothers.
Not so. Mapes' one shot at salvation came from a Freeper who pointed out that the IBM Selectric Composer did have the font, the superscript and the kerning, although the spacing coincidence was too highly improbable : here and here
School of sharks doing a "drunken blogging brawl (because that's what it was)" [from this morning's American Morning with O'Brien^2].
Well Mary seems to be enjoying her new dip in shark infested waters as she hawks the hack book.
The bottom line which she conveniently forgets to mention is that no amount of blogging could undermine a new story supported by facts and even a routine level of verification/documentaion.
On the other hand blogging including experts can undue an partisan heavy-handed lie.
In addition to ignoring the fact the the documents were frauds, Mapes lies about the behavior of FReepers. I was on those early threads urging caution, because I had actually used an IBM Composer in the early 70s, and I had see type balls with superscripts.
It actually took about 48 hours for all the coffin nails to get pounded into place, not the smallest of which was provided by the owner of a Composer who tried to duplicate the documents.
Just a little peek into the mind of the kind of people who put together the MSM news.
Speaking for myself here (feel free to disagree!), I do not hate people, but I do hate lies. Generally speaking, I am not an angry person, but lies make me angry. And when I band together to fight for the right, I find no shame in that.
The funny part is that this old hag will spend the rest of her miserable life wallowing in bitterness. Everytime FReepers think about it, we smile.
And they were right. The document that was the linchpin of her theory was impossible for it to be what Mary Mapes claimed.
Of course, there was another much bigger, much better sourced scandal she could have covered. You know, the one in which a presidential candidate confessed to actual war crimes while lying about war crimes committed by others
For some reason she chose not to. Oh well.
I think Mary Mapes is great! Neato! Nifty!
(see, we don't all think alike. Nee!)
Everyone knows the memos CBS News showed as evidence are complete fakes (it doesn't match ANYTHING we know about how military memos were done at the time), and her comments are essentially major sour grapes.
Similarly, it didn't take a genius to realize that Buckhead was on to something. (And, while I knew nothing about typewriters, it wasn't that hard to tell that the document looked like it came from MS Word).
GO PAJAMA BRIGADE!!!!!!!!
Freepers often see the glee the 60 Minutes crew has on their wrinkled little faces when they take someone down. And strangely, for reasons unknown, they never "take down" a liberal. Ever wonder about that? My guess is "no". You don't seem like a person who wonders about much, but you do seem mean. You wanted to lie about a duly elected President of the United States because you hated him. Not because you had a hard truth on him. Not for any reason other than hate. You wanted to trump the right of the people to a fair vote. You wanted to run your hit piece so there wouldn't be time for an answer. You're such a jerk.
Here's something else for you to think about Mapes, back when Bush was young, democrats ran Texas, and BushSr., had as much pull in that state as you have with Freepers. None. Nada. Zip.
Your hate even overwhelmed what little logic is required to do the entertainment type show you worked for... You hate us. And you accuse us of not liking you? Well, you're right about one thing. This Freeper doesn't like you.
