Yes, that's precisely why this nomination won't make it. When a nominee becomes the subject of jokes from your own supporters, its over.

I seldom disagree with Ann.

She's wrong on this one -- mostly in the way she's approaching it. She needs to drop it, let the lady speak for herself.

She was on Fox today and looked bad. She looked shopworn, too much makeup, way too much eye makeup. She jumped the shark.

My first thought when I heard about her appearance on Bill Maher's show last week (when she said that President Bush "nominated the cleaning lady") was, "Gee, Ann, do you think that anyone will care what you think when you look like a cleaning lady?"

Agree with the nomination. Disagree with the nomination. Either position is fine, without the entrance of ad hominem attacks. My position is the same as it was on day one: the President nominates, the Senate confirms/rejects.

In her haste to diminish Miers' accomplishments and qualifications, she neglects to mention that a subversive b!tch and avowed Communist like Ruth Bader Ginsburg would be considered an exceptional Supreme Court nominee under the standards that Coulter has set for Miers.

Not an exceptional nominee, but, perhaps, exceptionally "qualified," at least when compared to Miers. Ann's point is that Miers doesn't even have basic things going for her. Bush is asking us to get over the fact that he nominated a woman to the SCOTUS who has little to offer up to us as to why she should be on the SCOTUS. Bush's rationale as to "why" is simply "because." Why should we accept that?

LOL..actually I bet there are several Freepers that would actually do a good job on the SCOTUS. It isn't all about pedigree. Although a knowledge of the law would be a pre-req. I think a lot of common sense comes into play also. And frankly common sense isn't something learned at any college.

Ann Coulter has become a parody of herself.

A dead on characterization ...

She always has looked like a wet hound after a coon hunt.

That is beneath you, man. What do her looks have to do with her opinion, whether you like her looks or not?

It's times like this I really miss the beautiful, brilliant, diplomatic Barbara Olsen.

Moment of silence and prayerful thought.

Just being very smart and doing really well in a prestigious law school doesn't necessarily mean you'll be an effective lawyer. Some things can't be measured.

What the hell would Coulter know about being a lawyer? She ditched her law career to rant and rave about politics and get pies thrown at her.

I have been inclined to forgive Ann Insofar. Now shes really beginning to show elitist tendencies. Her tone is beginning to really annoy me. I'm so sorry Ann not all of us have 200,000 extra bucks to blow on Harvard and have to go to COMMUNITY COLLEGE, OOOOHHHH THE HORRROR!!!!!!!

And, if she's wrong, she won't be able to get a book published at all, even if her co-author is the Virgin Mary.

That's true enough, but my guess is that the odds are in her favor.

Curious how Ann and WND feel that Lame stream Journalists are now refering to "left leaning World Net Daily". I bet that really, really hurt. Sorry the WND crowd are all mad. Still not hearing anything but "whaa, this is NOT who we want" from the Conservative Punditry. This is the same old stuff. Isn't WND due for a new attack line? This is what, the 12th attack line tried out in 11 days.

I was thinking about the term "useful idiot" on the way home and I think that even as we face a fracture or rift in the party, it could become a blessing.

The left believes the pick is more to their liking because of the conservative backlash. If she is a real conservative, and I believe she is, then the opposition will be weak at the hearings.

Those who have been the worst Miers and Bush bashers will in the end be the indispensable "useful idiots" that made it possible.

The president and his advisor's had to be well aware that her lack of record and her beliefs would be the issues going in to this so, is the president being misunderestimated again?

It's times like this I really miss the beautiful, brilliant, diplomatic Barbara Olsen. She could write and persuade and debate and even charm people to her way of thinking without the caustic in-your-face approach Ann has

I agree 100% and caustic is precisely the word to describe her crusade against Miers. Right or wrong in her assessment, her diatribes border on hate filled and are clearly over the top. She may be smart and she may have a gift with words, however, she has no class and zero tact. I'm getting tired of her shtick.

Yes... what in Miers' background shouts: "Pick me, pick me!" She was a dark horse candidate way back in August. She was not on the list of any one's top choices for the Court, except to Reid. Ann is right Miers is qualified for many positions but not for the SCOTUS. And this brilliant commentary is an incisive example of the conservative movement's independence. We don't worship a President or the Republican Party. We have the brains to make our own judgments.

I love ya Ann. But I think it's 11th commandment time.

I'd settle for the 9th commandment (a REAL one) right about now...

That's her point - Ruth Bader Ginsburg has superb legal qualifications.

The only point made here by Ann is an inadvertent one, that being that the superb qualifications of Ruth Bader Ginsburg have absolutely no correlation to the ability to read and understand the Constitution of the United States.

My barber understands that when the constitution says that private property may only be taken for public use, it means just that. The superbly educated Ginsburg peers at the takings clause and finds it doesn't mean what it says it means what superbly educated assholes want it say.
