This must be a disaster provision. I know they set up 1500 trailers outside Punta Gordo Fl last year after a hurricaine and now they are wondering if people will leave. They intrviewed a woman who identified herself as a single parent of six who said it is hard to find a place. Free rent is somethiong some will use up to the hilt, I think.

They are pledging strong oversight that includes a review of no-bid contracts and close scrutiny of federal employees who now enjoy a $250,000 — rather than a $2,500 — purchase limit for Katrina-related expenses on their government-issued credit cards.

Jesus, do they even have a CLUE how this can be abused?????

Correct, but it also shows just what a drop in the bucket $500M is, which is what #23 was about.

"Responsibility people need the flexibility to "get it done" without having to clear expenses with bureaucrats in Washington every 5 minutes."

Understood. But a limit of 250k before having to undergo the normal approval procedures seems to me to be an invitation for waste and fraud.

Cleveland himself admitted that, as President, his greatest accomplishment was blocking others' bad ideas. He vigorously pursued a policy barring special favors to any economic group. Vetoing a bill to appropriate $10,000 to distribute seed grain among drought-stricken farmers in Texas, he wrote: "Federal aid in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the sturdiness of our national character...." He also vetoed hundreds of private pension bills to American Civil War veterans whose claims were fraudulent. When Congress, pressured by the Grand Army of the Republic, passed a bill granting pensions for disabilities not caused by military service, Cleveland vetoed that, too. Cleveland used the veto far more often than any President up to that time.

We need another Cleveland. I fear citizens have become to look at the federal government as a giant insurance company against every perceivable kind of risk.
