"Ah I see You are one of the Movone.org "conservatives" who spend all their time here shooting at what is supposedly their own "side""
Yeah, that's it. How about reading some of my previous posts at FR first. I have never stated Delay was guilty of anything and I hope he is cleared.
But, you have to be honest and admit the he is hobbled as a leader until till this plays out.
My choice to replace Delay would have been Congressman Tom Tancredo. At least he is doing something about illegal immigration and uncontrolled federal spending.
If we could look into the mind of Ronnie Earle today, I think we would find a truly surprised man. After listening to his press conf I am convinced he wasn't believing this would happen.
It'll take Dan Rather or Juan Williams to find a link to DeLay in that indictment...lol.
For some reason, this bogus indictment against Delay, (which according to Brian Wilson, won't be "settled" until after next year's elections), makes me worried about what might come down re: the Valerie Plame investigation...
We KNOW that there are people that would rather get ROVE out of the way than Bush even....
If all it takes to get an indictment on "conspiracy" is vague innuendo....then I don't doubt they could do that to anyone, any time of the day....
I think that case is supposed to be "finished" in October....
What in the hek are you talking about? This will have ZERO effect on the House elections.
This whole thing is very Kafka-esque. I'm sure Ronnie must be very excited about the fact that he finally got a grand jury to do this after trying FIVE TIMES.
Precisely.
There's more substance in Anna Nicole Smith's brain than in these charges.
Whoops-forgot the:
/chicken little
It was sarcasm!!
Interesting observation, but Rove is a political appointment, not an elected officeholder. He would NOT have to step down. House rules force DeLay.
Finally a Republican with balls, i expected him to apologize.
There goes the House?? Please, take a deep breath. Or five.
I am really kind of surprised they didn't give Blount the Majority Leader job...
Dreier is kind of a lightening rod sometimes...
I really don't care what they do though, if it is temporary.
If I was DeLauy's attorney, I would push for a trial as soon as possible. I suspect that the DA has little to no evidence necessary to convict.
"No insider information was available to Senator Frist."
Do you know the legal definition of "insider trading?" I do because before retiring I worked for Morgan Stanley in NY and also was a lawyer. Were there any conversations between Senator Frist and his brother during the year 2005? What did they discuss? Did the brother inform the Senator that he might want to sell his stock? How much money did earn from the sale? Was it $ 10 million, $ 1 million or $ 50,000? How much of an economic loss would he have suffered if the stock was not sold? Do Senate ethics rules require that he suffer an economic loss?
Another issue: The Senator did not perceive any conflicts during the period 1994 - 2004. But during that period, bills were presented for vote that impacted health care providers. All during that period, the value of his stock was increasing. Suddenly, the economic picture changed. Why would owning that stock present a conflict today there were no perceived conflicts before?
There are far too many questions that need to be answered. But right now the "appearance of impropriety" is present in the timing of the stock sale. He sold out just before the stock tanked badly. It's almost as strong as res ipsa loquitur or the "facts speak for themselves". Frist may have violated Senate ethics regulations without the intention of profiting, i.e. negligently violating the rule.
I'm not saying he will face criminal prosecution. But he might face formal censure. Democrats will be howling like wild monkeys.
Coincidentally, which happened right after Clinton was impeached. Why are there so many Chicken Littles around here today?
True, that raises one heck of a red flag to watch out for what he's doing, but that doesn't mean that all his indictments are politically based. That just means you watch him very carefully. People are clearly doing that, which is good...
But I *HATE* when people make accusations without any proof. I have seen no proof that Earle has been indicting Republicans more than Democrats, or indicting Republicans unfairly more often than he does so to Dems. That's what I want to see, and no one has offered it up yet.
Tom is gonna do okay.
Delay sounds strong. They've got nothing.
Brian W. is correct about this not getting settled until after the 06 elections, I heard that from Tom Sullivan subbing for Rush.
But I don't have the concerns about Plame. Just miffed at the not-very conincidental timing of this action against Delay, before the elections.
Still, the RATS won't make any big strides at election time. It takes ideas to win elections and they have zip.
