We've decided to shelter in place. I'm not about to try the freeway. Plenty of water and canned and dry(for now) goods. Filled up a couple portable gas tanks for the generator.

Now that she's shifted east, think Mr. X and I are staying . . . will keep everyone posted!

Just a quick message to let you know that Rika has turned around and is headed back home to wait it out. There was no way she could reach Oklahoma in time. She was on the road for over 4 hours and only went 3 miles. She is currently stuck headed back north to her house after trying a store run.

dandelion here, reporting in from the Heart o' Texas area, Limestone county. Looking to ride it out here with my extended family and several pets, the news reporting that we probably will get tropical storm force winds if the latest track holds. We are praying for all in the storms path, and holding out hope that this monster storm will weaken...

I'm in Copper Lakes in NW Houston near Barker Cypress and 290.

My husband and I will be riding out the storm here, much to the dismay of my family in Oklahoma.

God be with you all.

I am located in Lubbock. I live in a small efficiency; that and the lease rules prevent me from extending my hospitality. However, if you are going to be here, please let me know if I can assist in any way. Run errands, etc. I'll be happy to do so.

Good news to report here.

My parents and their two cats and one dog just arrived safely here at my house in Nashville! They ended up taking 77 North all the way to Dallas, then I-30 to I-40 into Tennessee.

It took them about 9 hours to get to Dallas, from Sheridan, TX (near Columbus, 50 miles west of Houston, for those of you wondering). They said the biggest problem for them was not the traffic, but that the Highway Patrol kept stopping them at major intersections for hours at a time to let the major arteries from Houston flow more quickly (I-10, 290, etc heading northward). But we understand that this was necessary to keep the heaviest traffic lanes moving, so it sounds like the adults are in charge in Texas, coordinating traffic flow to ease the congestion problems.

It also looks like they'll have a home to go back to when this thing blows over -- the predicted tracks on Tuesday and Wednesday showed the eye going right over their house, but the eastward revisions of the predicted landfall track will end up sparing them a lot of grief.

Evacuated from La Porte on Thursday now safe and sound in Magnolia. Still have power for now.

The Houston evacuation plan is a joke. Worst 12 hours of my life yesterday stuck in gridlock in 100 degree heat.

Howdy, Howlin!

We are in Tyler and in the line of fire.

I do need some coordination to keep my family posted if we lose power/phone.

We are going to try to keep the cellphones forwarded to home as long as there is power so we can shut down the cellphones, but if we lose phone/power we will use one and forward the other until we think the battery is about gone and then switch it the other way.

The amin things I am scared of is downed trees/power lines and maybe flood water in here.

Here in Cypress and only light rain so far. Wind was gusty but probably not over 30 MPH.

I can't say Houston dodged a bullet - we just sat here.

The bullet dodged us!

I see nothing more than small tree debris everywhere in my immediate area.

There are 500,000+ without power in the Houston area.

Prayers out to those that caught the worst of this.

All's well this morning in the Woodlands. Might have a sever, yet thin, line of orange coming our way in an hour or so, but W. Montgomery Cty still has power and internet.
