" and the Nanny State taketh away " ..... and still charge you a fee or tax.
The typical profile of the "wave and close the door" sorts I knew when I lived in the Gulf...
When the storm surge forced them onto their roof, they got on the CB radio, demanding that the gubmint drop everything else they were doing to rescue them.
Not saying it's you. I sincerely hope it isn't you.
As does it in many mid to large size cities. Visit any city emergency room on Fri/Sat eve and you'll see the victims of our present day society.
Never has Yours Truly blamed Bush for the mess. That was Mother Nature's doing.
However, he's responsible for the Federal side of cleaning it up, and it's too early to tell whether the White House is up to the task. With his sinking polls, he has to shine, or we'll be looking at President Witch Queen in '08.
//I warned everyone about the consequences of $3 a gallon gasoline, regardless of reasons for the price hikes.
I'd go crazy surrounded by thousands of people who haven't showered, brushed their teeth, etc. No real food, no fresh water really... it's cabin fever.
Another idiot newbie chimes in.
Yes, but at this point its time for the incompetent local disaster response folks to get in gear and deliver the food, water, and evacuation they promised. Many of the angry people sitting on the side of the road without water or food in 90 degree heat did what the government told them to do - they went to the convention center where they were told they would be evacuated. And instead they are sitting there.
Using the excuse of some armed people, crime and a few gunshots to stop rescue operations is silly - people deal with that kind of thing all the time in major cities like New Orleans. Since when do the police give up because somebody fired a gun? In New Orleans??? That's ridiculous.
Its well and good to say everyone should take care of themselves, and for many of those folks that's all they can do now. But then you have to accept that they needed to break down the doors into the kitchen area and seize the food, and that doing so was OK. The next step is probably to obtain running vehicles to evacuate in -- and that might be pretty ugly. So the concept of "everyone for himself" is OK, as a plan B, but I'd much rather see an orderly disaster response and evacuation. And in order for that to happen you need organization, courage and leadership. All of which seem to be lacking among the government leaders of New Orleans and Louisiana.
Its time for action by the governmental folks responsible for the evacuation, not excuses.
Lots of them lately right? It's amazing what floats after a flood.
"However, he's responsible for the Federal side of cleaning it up, and it's too early to tell whether the White House is up to the task."
Well, the Feds can't move until the state asks. Federalism, baby.
Right on!!!
Wait until NY or LA gets popped with a Nuke. Then you will see a real mess....
I knew this was coming. I understand that 9/11 was a act of terrorism and I dont wish the debate the right or wrong of the giveaway. Nonetheless now everyone in NO is going to expect a car, money and a home.
The dim sinawhore has already been screaming that LA better get more money then NY. The libs the dims and the MSM will cry racism as the only reason Bush wont give each of them a million dollars.
You're such a dork...he could only do what he did with support from Bush....me thinks you should go get your money back for that PhD...you didn't learn anything about philosophy.....
"I totally agree with you. It is MORE than time to quit supplying other countries and their "needs" and take care of our own. Our foreign aid should be suspended (I, like you, would eliminate it entirely FOREVER.), as should the dues to the UN, the money headed for the Palestine Authority, money to Africa to combat AIDS, and other boondoggles too numerous to mention."
Well said. I'm waiting for Mexico and Nigeria to start giving us low-cost oil, and other American welfare recipient nations to belly up and help with this disaster like we always help them.
It's too late for asbestos undies to protect him from permanent brain damage.
The Feds can't move until Congress decides to spend some money on American citizens, for a change.
Why don't YOU do something, you moron. If you people down there knew how to a.)exercise some self control and b.)organize yourselves to help yourselves and others you wouldn't have a lot of the problems you're having right now. The first disaster was the hurricane, the second disaster was the floods, but the third disaster was the failure of the people in the region to act intelligently, to control themselves, and to try to help themselves and others. I'm disgusted with the people of New Orleans right now. Their behavior is a national embarassment.
Tell me about it. Add to it parents with children or heaven forbid babies with no water, diapers, formula, etc, I would be going nuts. I do feel bad for the people at the superdome. They went where they were told, I would have thought that the people who told them to go there would have had a plan to get them water, food and diapers. It has been 5 days for crying out loud. And all the while, they have been telling more people to go there.
"Anybody dumb enough to vacation in NO got what they deserve...
NO has been a cr*p hole for years...."
I dont believe they deserve to die for choosing a bad location to vacation.
Are you nuts?
