CNN just reported that gas was nearly 4.99 in some stations in Atlanta. They said stations are rationing people to ten bucks worth of gas.

Blamed the culprit on a shut off east coast gas pipeline.

I seriously wonder if this is true?

I'm in the Savannah area, and I passed at least one station on the way home that was out of gas.

Regular was between 2.47 and 2.69 this morning; it seems to be uniformly 2.99 this afternoon.

I also passed what looked like two gasoline trucks, but they were not major brands, so the tankers could have been carrying a different fuel, or they could have been empty.

FWIW

As demand continues to outpace supply (and forget about Katrina, China is "fueling" the bigger crunch), alternate fuels become more and more economical.

Expect the 2010's to be the boom time of new ways to extract energy.

Fortunately, I work from home and I filled up both my cars.

At the rate I drive, that should last about 6 weeks.

Thank god! The liberal single-mom mobiles will be off the road.

Blamed the culprit on a shut off east coast gas pipeline.

According to Georgia Public Radio, that part is true, and the governor is urging people not to panic and saying the pipeline should be operational again by the weekend. That report said that 80% of Georgia's gasoline was delivered via the pipeline (which I found a bit hard to believe, but that is what they said.)

I heard that last night. Brother in law called. Hung up the phone and said "Nah--but honey, let's go fill up just in case." So we did.

You should see it here. People are acting like soylent green was being handed out. Literally 40 deep at the pumps and sticking out into major roadways causing accidents.

spoke to a gas station operator in L.A. Apparently Union 76 stations have been warned about allocations out here...not sure about other brands.
