Strong beer heck, I'm going to go get a fifth of Jack Daniels. Of course with the lottery in place I can expect the tax on that to be lowered right? ;)

Did they give the bill a warm and fuzzy name like "The educational full funding act"?

Now that I think about it, wasn't that what they called the budget a couple years ago when they voted on it?

No, I believe it is called what it is: "the North Carolina State Lottery Act"

Because a lot of Left Coastists and NE Leftists move here to the cities (Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, UNC-Chapel Hill) for high tech jobs (Research Triangle Park,et.al. -- hey, that's what I did) and are changing the character of the place.

Yet, strangley, Raleigh is more Republican than 20 years ago.

Lottery - a tax on those who are bad at math.

I have a BIL who is addicted to scratch tickets and going to the casino. He says I am nuts for investing big chunks in stocks, as if it'smore risky that a $30 scratch ticket. BTW, he's 45 and still rents his house from his inlaws. Looser!

I did a search & found that the House bill (H1023) was the "North Carolina State Lottery Act".

The Senate bill (S622) was the "2005 Appropriations Bill".

Another state allows the lower class to throw their money away.

Yep, guess we need a law telling people how they are "allowed" to spend their money. I wonder who's going to be on the committee to decide such things?

You know any busybodies?

I got the impression he was being sarcastic. Perhaps I was wrong?

If so, my bad.

Oh, and why can't I open a casino? Or is NC like one of them Communist countries where the government owns the businesses but private citizens can't. (My take is here.)

NC has a Democrat majority because the traitor Richard Morgan agreed to draw the districts in their favor. Republicans outpolled Democrats 50-48 in the state senate and 51-47 in the house.

Get your fellow law talkin' guys working on it. We need to have poker declared a game of skill so we can open poker rooms, and then we can push for full blown casino's.

Though I disagree with the lottery, I do get a chuckle out of Democrats pushing through a tax on what amounts to stupidity and poverty.

Can I open up a poker table on the Eno in my kayak, kinda like the barges in St. Louis?

We certainly need to get rid of these racist and socialist laws that allow gambling to be supplied only by American Indians and governments.

And don't forget about bottled liquors only being available from the government too. Imagine, one day, if porn were only available from a state agency.

Ack.

Hear, hear.

I was making the point about the state's liquor monopoly recently on the NC board.
It boggles my mind that most people seem to accept that as part of the natural order of things.

Hmmm...the more I think about it, a gentlemen's Poker day out on the Eno sounds pretty cool!

How do solidly red states like NC still elect Democratic legislatures??

There are serious problems with our form of government.
