Yes - NO will NOT get the worst of it....that will be to the north and east of the eye.
What the City is seeing now will be the worst of it for the winds probably over the next hour....than the winds will lighten up significantly....Again. what they are seeing now is the worst they will see.....
The winds will turn to the NNW soon; thus, any compromised buildings may get further compromised when hit from another direction....also when the winds turn to the NNW, the lake waters will be pushed to the south further alleviating any possible flooding in downtown NO....
If one lives to the NE (30-50 miles NE) of NO they should seek shelter immediately...

I rather doubt it. It doesn't look like the roof is in any way structurally supporting the rest of the building.
Actually, I read an article on the Superdome construction yesterday, and the roof is an integral part of the support structure. That's why people are getting so nervous.

LOL! "A curb job as opposed to a" whoops ...
"I have no idea how that happened," Shep says.
Maybe not, but I've got a pretty good idea ...

I watched the roof collapse of Miller Stadium . . . . So much steel tends to go . . .down.

You went through Camille three blocks from the beach? Merciful heavens. That must have been quite a thing.
My sister was evacuated from a house by the Back Bay -- in a police boat!
We drove to get her afterwards -- chunks of Highway 90 lifted up like toy building blocks.

Are you kidding? Without the roof, the whole interior of the structure is directly exposed to the hurricane. So? They don't make such things out of balsa wood. Everything is going to get wet. The only people who will be any danger will be those stupid enough to stand under falling parts of the roof. The structure itself is in little danger.

The Platters and Dave Edmonds plus a few more.
I think Edmonds is the one "we" remember.
