Wolfstar, thanks for today's Dose. Your work is always very much appreciated!

I,too, thought the President looked and sounded a bit tired. And, guess it's understandable with 'the weight of the world on his shoulders'. I pray for this good man. May God continue to bless him with wisdom and strength.

This is the picture I took last week from the tip of the Point (Cabrillo monument). Because of your expert info, I knew exactly what I was looking at, and could picture the President in his flightsuit taking off from this very spot! :)

I told daughter about the President's visit and said she should ask her Poli Sci prof to take them to see him! I'll give her a heads up when I talk to her in a while about looking up to see AF1, but she might be in class...

(This one's from the bottom of the trail at the lighthouse)

It's been around for quite a while. I saw it first on the WH website before the election in November, but I don't know for sure where it came from.

Thanks for the info. I probably have seen it before so I can't imagine why I don't remember such a great picture.

Is you daughter all settled in and starting school? Or is that later in the week maybe?

I just took a short break from being at the computer, and went to the TV to catch up on the hurricane coverage. The leading edge of rain is now in New Orleans. People who don't have cars or any means to leave the city are pouring into the Superdome. Snugs and Oz, the reporters mentioned that there are tourists from England and Australian stranded in New Orleans, and they are going into the Superdome.

The Superdome is a very large domed stadium used for American-style football and other events.

President Bush had called the Louisiana governor early this morning to ask her to issue a mandatory evacuation order. However, several facilities, such as hospitals and hotels, are exempt because the people there have no practical way to evacuate the city. In addition to the Superdome, a number of other shelters have been set up around the area.

Over on the weather channel, the eye appears headed directly for the western edge of the city. Basically, New Orleans is in the bullseye of the storm, if not exactly dead center.

In addition, the hurricane is well over 100 miles in diameter, which means communities on both sides of New Orleans will be hit hard.

Oops, just saw your post with pictures right above mine. It answered my questions. That will teach me to read and catch up before I post! :)

Still hope your daughter is settling in nicely. How is she handling the heat? Beach time!!

Thanks for asking.

She's been in class for a week now, and is quickly making friends.

She's got a good roommate and great girls on her floor, and is taking some very interesting classes (LOTS of reading, but she's very disciplined, and is keeping up), and is getting involved in several musical groups on campus and looking for a way to play some serious soccer.

I'd say all is well. Except her mommy misses her so bad it hurts......

She came from 95 degree weather here in Ohio. She's doing FINE (though she said her room gets hot in the afternoon sun).

Plus, there's a nice ocean breeze all the time, so she can always cool down somewhere. It's rough out there. :)

Yes and that stupid Move-on.org *Witch* Tucker Carlson has on his show every night (no, I'm not a Tucker fan, didn't get to the clicker in time).... had the gall to comment that the President was "taking the longest vacation of any President in history!"

The ocean breezes at night are wonderful. Tell her not to go to the beach next weekend (major holiday crowding) or to go very early. LOL

Sounds like she is all set, and doing great.

GREAT photos of our AWESOME president!!

After 9/11 each time a disaster occurs (e.g., the impending hurricane), I think of the following quote from Stephen Mansfield's book "The Faith of George W Bush."

"I feel like God wants me to run for president," Bush said (to Pastor Robison). "I can't explain it, but I sense that my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen, and, at that time, my country is going to need me. I know it won't be easy, on me or my family, but God wants me to do it." George W Bush

He was right . . . his country has needed him OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!
