I've come to the conclusion that, like everything else in NY, the good stuff has to be hunted down.
I ALWAYS used to put ketchup in my chili when I was a kid. At some point people got real hauty-tauty about their chili-recipes. I guess i should have expected it in Texas where they have all these chili contests, but in KC?
See, I grew up in St. Louis where you get'cher chili from the neighborhood Greasy Spoon, and they slop it up with beans and all the crackers you want. AND a big bottle of Heinz Ketchup with a crust around the top of the bottle. Nuthin fancy. Take your Pepcid AC. But we didn't have it in those days, so be sure you had your Alka-Seltzer at home. But it shure tasted good.
That's why I say screw these people who say you can't put beans in chili. I LIKE beans in chili, and if they say it's not chili, then whatever it is, I LIKE it.
