I think what Robertson said was stupid. But I have yet to hear one solid argument as to why it is not Christian. How about this, and I mean it respectfully: as an ambassador for Christ and one who should be following The Great Commission Robertson should support the rule of law.
Whether we like it or not, Chavez was as far as I can tell, more or less elected legally. Assassinating an elected leader is not the same as assassinating a self-imposed tyrant (although both may be tyrants). Assassination has many negative implications.
If Robertson wants to be a foreign policy advisor that is one thing, and he should act accordingly. If he wants to save souls for Christ that is another thing; and advocating killing a duly elected although highly objectionably head of state will, in my opinion, turn off a large number of people.
I realize that true conversion requires the intervention of the Holy Spirit, but there must be desire or intent. If by his statement Robertson is loosing souls to salvation, do you think that is not Christian?

I just find a hypocrisy between a man who claims to represent the Kingdom of Christ and the same man advocating assignation. Assignation? You are thinking Swaggart or Baker.

If you are Christian, then you are Jewish! You have been grafted in or "adopted" into the family of God. God said "Thou shalt not Shed innocent blood" or Thou shalt not murder". There is a difference in murder and killing. The unfortunate translation of the commandment has ruined many Christians interpretations about what God would have them do. This is the age old debate over abortion and capital punishment. Unborn babies cannot be more innocent than they are, but convicted murderers are the quintessential "non innocent". It is not inconsistent for me to want capital punishment for murderer's( Chavez) and not to kill babies.
God killed millions in Sodom and Gomorrah and in the flood he probably killed billions of men, women, and children,(and fuzzy little animals for the Peta people here). One of the hardest things for pseudo Christians to fathom is God killed millions and sanctioned the killing of millions by the Jews in the Bible. This has always been us against them and will be till the final battle. One should decide early on if you are an "us" or a "them". Self defense is a God given right just as you wouldn't hesitate to kill an intruder into your home, God doesn't condemn the killing of murderous despots. When Saddam get the hangman's noose, are we supposed to give him mercy because we are Christians? We put him there.
I think the problem here is most people here have been conditioned to have a knee jerk reaction to the name "Pat Robertson". You want him to be a kook, so the venom starts at the sound of his name. I seem to remember awhile back he was quoted as saying "God told him Bush would be re elected". I remember the hoots and hollering then. Well, he was re elected and there was no apology to Pat. I don't care for everything Pat says either, but he is at least as Christian as the pope.

The American action in Chile caused alot of long term resentment against our country, assassinating Chavez would flare up anger once again.....
Think of it this way- imagine if France were to assisinate President Bush. Imagine the Public reaction- sure the DUmmies would celebrate- but nearly all Americans, most Democrats who might be sympathetic to France included, would be outraged and you would REALLY see genuine hatred towards France, not just the Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey jokes you typically see.
Foreign interference in your own country's politics is rarely welcomed. If it's a case with a brutal thug tyrannizing the country like Saddam did it might be, but Chavez isn't anywhere near their yet.

AMEN !!!!! In the late 1930's Churchill was asked what should be done about Hitler (this was BEFORE he had even invaded the Rhineland or Poland and was still rather weak). Churchill replied that you should pluck a weed before it ruins the garden. If the world had listened to Churchill, MILLIONS of lives would have been saved. Good post, but I just wish someone in 'the house of religion' didn't say this. It just gives the anti-Christians more ammo.

Btw, would it have been wrong for the Pope to have called for the execution of Adolf Hitler in 1940?
I dont recall The Christ calling for the killing of Caesar.

We are going to find out just how dangerous Chavez is. The CIA has been taking out bad guys for a long time, and I do not think that Pat Robertson saying that we should have cut the snake's head off (Saddam) after the first Gulf War or agreeing that we just might need to do something to Chavez is wrong.

I can't understand why everyone is so upset. Haven't they read in the new testament where Jesus called for the political killings of the local Jewish/Roman constabulary? All those places..... for example, you know, in 1st Hezekiah 3:1 where he said "Lo, but these Roman tyrants shall feel the wrath of God from My disciples when they unsheath their swords...." And further, how He constantly preached that the Kingdom of God was tied to the political engine that best approximated the values of the Kingdom of God at a given moment....
What? You never read all that? Well, you just need to go back and read your Bibles, I guess.

Statements made by a man who claims to be a Christian Minister calling for the killing of a specific person just dont sound very Christian at the least, they dont sound very Christ like.

"More damage to the cause of Christ."
I don't think so. Everyone expects this from him. He always manages to step in it and this is not the first time he's phrased it that way..To the likes of Saddam also. As for hurting the cause of Christ, The Lord Himself will take care of that.

If I were a Christian minister I would not call for some ones murder. It would be different if I were an Imam. For some strange reason I believe that a Christian should emulate the Christs teaching. How foolish of me.

You can believe what you wish. Oh the other hand Hitler was a particularly evil and odious person. He'd sent who he wished and done what he wanted, and if he had to murder a million people to round up a crew that seemed to meet that requirement, he'd done it.
I've never really understood why so many folks wish to make the man appear so much less evil than he really was.

The point was to let one poster know the concept had a name, and to let another poster know his belief was a well-known heresy.
It wasn't like Christians had dealt with the apparent conflict before ~ they had, and there are whole libraries regarding the matter.
So, you are fighting ignorance? Good for you. Lot of ignorance out there.
