Modernman thinks you're an a radical idiot, obviously. You should be proud! It's a sure barometer that you are on the right path. Congratulations!

Congratulations!

Thanks! I thanked him for his observation because I also consider his comments to mean I'm on the right path. It's just sad that some folks have to resort to misdirection and misrepresentation when they hear the message that gays can go straight.

I don't really understand, that's all.

Well -there is plenty to digest. Feel free to ask questions. Faith seeking understanding rather than understanding seeking faith... One may not know why it is so; however, when one knows it is so -so be it... Understanding may not necessarily come until the beatific vision should one be so graced as to realize eternal salvation...

From Born or Bred:
Americans for too long have been pummeled with the idea that people are "born gay." The people who most need to hear the truth are those who mistakenly believe they have no chance themselves for change. It is both more compassionate and truthful to give them hope than to serve them up politically motivated, unproven creations like the "gay gene."

So you want to split hairs and say it's ok to refuse to hire gay 'activists' but not 'regular 'gays? Or 'regular' gays but not 'flaming' gays? Do you think they'd let that distinction stand? You'd be refusing to hire- or dismissing- someone based on their personality. And who would define 'activist' or 'flaming'? National level, state, local?
Imagine a 'regular' gay teacher turning 'flaming and/or activist after they're employed. Can we say -tenure??

I can't see gays who want to teach-credentials being equal- standing for only straight acting, unassuming homosexuals get the job while they are rejected for being too 'swishy' or outspoken- can you, really?

It's all or nothing. They won't let you have it any other way.

I'm not trying to be cheeky, honestly. I really don't understand. What does "Faith seeking understanding" mean. Also, what do you mean by a "beatific vision"? Is that like a feeling that everything is going to be O.K. Or, like a feeling of "contentment"? Something like that? Please forgive me for my ignorance.

Faith seeking understanding in a nutshell is putting faith into action regardless (following the 'rules of the road'/path) regardless if it makes sense, can be proven scientifically, you can understand the reasoning, you disagree based upon your own or others conclusions etcetera etcetera... Additionally, understanding may come with grace (closeness to God) -grace that is attained by following His path -grace that would not come but from faith first..

As to the beatific vision: It entails what one will be able to see/understand when authenically free and with God...

Beatific Vision

Beatific Vision

The immediate knowledge of God which the angelic spirits and the souls of the just enjoy in Heaven. It is called "vision" to distinguish it from the mediate knowledge of God which the human mind may attain in the present life. And since in beholding God face to face the created intelligence finds perfect happiness, the vision is termed "beatific". For further explanation of the subject, see HEAVEN.

Oh, no no! You misunderstand!
I don't want homosexuals in schools, PERIOD. Unassuming 25yr olds or old ladies. NONE.
What I was trying to say was DISCRIMINATING on the basis of 'degrees' of open 'gayness' isn't going to fly. A flaming, limp-wristed gay man who is rejected in favor of a more 'straight looking' gay man is going to SUE, and probably win. Because, if you hire gays at ALL you're going to have to have the full range of their behavior IF their teaching credentials pass muster.
Can you imagine a school saying " No, you're not hired "because you're too effeminate and blatantly gay." ? Good gay-vs-bad gay? Gay activists aren't going to let that happen.

I'm sorry if I didn't make my point more clear. I am against gays being anywhere near children- schools, churches,parks-anywhere. I certainly don't want them in positions of influence over children.
I've met many homosexual men while running a shop in the French Quarter. There are degrees of OUTWARDLY deviant behavior, but the common deviancy always outweighed their decent traits. Sex was ALWAYS the focus and reason and most important thing in their lives. It DEFINED them. And I quickly learned that ' faithful and committed', to gay men, meant ' I have sex with him faithfully, long term-but that doesn't mean ONLY him.' Oh- the stories about vicious fights I could tell!

Honestly- they were all emotionally immature to differing degrees, and reverted
( when angry at each other)from friendly, charming and polite to the most petulant, vindictive and downright nasty people I've ever met.

Very astute observation. I wonder how seriously we would take people as committed to Star Trek as an integral facet of their persona?

I don't think that a teacher's sexual orientation, if they are not married, should be visible at all to the students. Over the years, and even up through high school, my children have had teachers that I recognized as most likely gay, but the children had no idea and never thought about the issue. In fact, even in late high school, one of my daughters didn't realize that a couple of the band instructors were most likely gay. And, thinking back, I realize that I had one or two teachers who were very likely gay, but that thought never occurred to me at the time.

The truth is, that children and teens have an instinctive aversion to knowing anything at all about a teacher's sex life (or any adult's sex life, for that matter.) Children don't naturally think about sex at all, and after puberty, they naturally think that adults are really too old to be having sex. The very idea grosses them out. ;) I believe that this natural modesty should respected-- adults need to keep it under wraps.

So, my conclusion is that it is fine for married heterosexual teachers to allude to a spouse, if the occasion warrants. (As I recall, my teachers might have mentioned at the beginning of the year that they were married and had children, but after that their private lives weren't brought up in the classroom.) But, everyone else needs to keep their private lives to themselves, and TEACH. The propensity of adults to spill their emotional baggage over children is, to my mind, simply shocking.

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as the gay teacher was neither seen nor heard.
