So if I go up to this guy from Iraq and give him a pocketful of money without telling him who I am, who is it that I can't do that? What if an cash deposit was made to his bank account, where there no way a trace could be put on it? There is so many ways around this edict.

This is just stupid. Thanks anyway, Georgians.

A group of Georgia football fans took up a collection to pay for a Boise State player's father to fly from Baghdad to see his son play against the Bulldogs in Athens.

If this was the school picking up the tab, that is one thing. But private citizens doing it on their own is another and the NCAA should butt out! Perhaps for an apology, the NCAA should foot the bill themselves, out of their own pockets.

Someone should do an NCAA football ping list

Do you feel like doing it?

Nope; I'm barely interested in the college game.

I'd rather see the NCAA do something useful, like making sure that the "student" athletes who inhabit NCAA sports actually go to school for an education.

Oddly enough, the "student" athlete thing doesn't seem to be a problem except for those sports for which a) there's not an alternative farm-team system; and b) for which there's a profitable professional alternative.

The NBA and NFL are using colleges as farm teams. Perhaps some enterprising legislature should start charging them for the privilege.

To me, it is good sportsmanship. The NCAA is goofy. This. The Indian mascot thing. And the king of all things stupid, not putting in a short playoff in lue of the horribly broken BCS (Bowl Championship Stinker).

I heard on a local radio show that UGA is getting ready to tear down the old Athletic Dorm where the announcer used to live. The question was raised about where the athletes would stay and it turned out that they are not allowed to have an athletic dorm anymore because it was "preferential treatment" that the other students didn't get. So, the NCAA creates a situation where the coaches can't help the young studs from getting in trouble on Saturday night, and people get all upset about all the arrests!!!

My opinion is that these players are working for the college. They bring tons of money into our higher institutes of learning. They deserve some perks. Besides, it helps to protect our daughters by having them all locked away in one place come the evenings....

Well, the BCS is serving one good purpose; the Seminoles, Fighting Illini, and the other un-PC teams can continue to use their names in the BCS (at least unless they also jumped on the Bland Miles bandwagon). Seems the NCAA has no authority over the bowl games.

As long as boise State play no role in this, who is the NCAA going to penalize. It's not like a payoff to get a student to enrole at UGA.

I say bring the guy back from Iraq and dare the NCAA to do anything.

I am:

1. A medically retired soldier
2. The spouse of a current active duty soldier (who recently returned from Afganistan)
3. NOT a resident of/fan of UGA or Boise State
4. A frequent "lurker" on FR
5. A successfull small business owner,

HEREBY make the folowing offer:

I, as an individual, will pay for this guy to fly from Iraq to Atlanta to see this game. I grew up down South (Roll Tide!!!), but have HAD it with the NCAA b*****t. If the appropriate folks will contact me (@ dustoff339@aol.com), I will buy this guys ticket with my own money.

THis is BS...this guy shoudl see his son play!!!!

God Bless the USA!!!
