Let's try this again, slowly.

This book is FICTION.

Anyone stupid enough to believe that it is rooted in reality is stupid enough to believe anything. (In which case, send 'em my way, 'cause I have some amazing oceanfront property in Tulsa.)

What you said.

(Makes you wonder if they think "Lord of the Rings" is for real as well.)

Probably the same nuts who want to burn Harry Potter because it praises Satin or some such stupidity.

And reading the part of the book jacket that says FICTION wouldn't lead one to believe that it's, um, fiction?

My prediction is that the da vinci code heresy movie will crash and burn as it should. No believing Christian should give any money to this type of tripe. On the other hand 'The Chronicles of Narnia' by C.S. Lewis that is due in theaters by Christmas will approach the 'Passion of the Christ' in sales.

PLENTY of GOOD Christians will see the movie because plenty of GOOD Christians are mature enough to know it's just a FUN mystery story and NOTHING else.

I'm no bonehead. I'm not fooled. He's all about the money. It's not a threat to me, because I am not fooled by it. But recognize that others are fooled by it and taking it as truth and that does have reprecussions for all of us Catholics at least. And the author subtly encourages this.

The controversy is that even Brown thinks the book is fiction except for the part about the Church. He hints taht those 'secrets' are some kind of Holy Grail, waiting to be discovered, revealed. I'm not fooled by it. The sad part is that so many others allow themselves to be. It plays off of anti-Catholic teachings that have resurfaced as supposed truths in certain 'Catholic' crowds and they view his 'novel' as confirmation finally about what they've suspected all along and Brown subtly encourages this not just for the money but also because he seems to 'believe it'. Substitute any other word in there for Catholic, religious or not. Such a story would either be accepted as truly fiction and off the wall or completely disavowed. This is not happening here, because Catholic bashing is acceptable.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com gotta tell ya... if you read it like the fiction that it is, it's not a bad book, but it WAS very interesting while reading it to look at a picture of the "Last Supper" painting and the odd things found in it.

That would be a reasonable assumption. But, the legions of imbeciles who believe it to be historically accurate would say otherwise.

Guess ya wanna do it Harry Potter too then righ t?Some ignorant moron might think its devil worship. So , lets burn and boycott that one too.

Some people really get bent out of shape over trivia.

Its only a fiction book and I still don't get the connection between Harry Potter and evil doings. As for the Da Vinci Code - I wouldn't waste my time. I don't read fiction unless its classical stuff.

Glad you're still out there Xenalyte.

What is the "Salicious Ping" list?

( I LOVE your webpage.)

Reading interviews and quotes from the author would lead one to believe otherwise.

It's called "marketing hype"...

That's what I thought, you read my mind, I was about to ask! I remember hearing about it at the time - from my friend who thought she was emphasizing the 'truth' of the book.

Someone rightly pointed out that this book is a publicist's dream, and it is. That's great, I wish I could come up with an idea this popular. But that doesn't change the reality that it's a church-bashing book, and people can deny that all they like. But I'd love to see what their idea of a REAL church-bashing book is. And yes, fiction can be used to make points--that's so obvious it seems silly to even point it out--look at Salman Rushdie.

I agree. A real church bashing book? One that bashed almost any other religion.
