That's a particularly conservative failing: The belief that only only conservatives can love God.
Well, given that the comparison juxtaposed the langauge of Patton and and Bono, it would seem that the comparison wasn't only valid, but damned good one at that.
One of my biggest pet peeves is people like this interviewer and some of my more loony left friends that like to have it both ways by saying that Christ was one of the great philosophical minds but not the son of God. Bono did a good job of explaining why that opinion is crap and makes no sense in the face of the fact that this guy went around telling people he was deity. If he was not who he said he was, then that would make him the Ward Churchill of his time.
You know... The either he was messiah or he was nuts argument... I don't think it really works that well in spreading the gospel. It certainly didn't work on me. A very good friend of mine (God bless him) tried to make me become a Christian in college primarily by relying on this argument.
It certainly didn't work on me.
Here are a few of the possible objections that can be made:
- Obviously, a man can have some sensible views and some that are not so sensible. Afterall, Tony Blair supports Newcastle and married Cherie :-)
- The authors of the new testament made up the "son of god" part.
and, so on and so forth.
Then again, the word works in wonderful mysterious ways, so this argument with the help of the holy spirit might work on some people.
There are many ways that leads away from the Lord, but there also many ways that leads to him... I have met biologists who have become Christians because the incredible intricate workings of nature.
Explain no further. I feel your pain.
You apparently can't read.
Bono is saying that Jesus is not just a teacher, not just a prophet etc. like many say.
He claimed he was the Son of God, and if he was not, he was crazy.
He advances the argument that the world could not be transformed by a nutcase who was clearly wrong.
Hard to believe in an eye for and eye and remain a Christian. The eye for an eye doctrine is one of the few old testament law that was directly challenged and set aside by Jesus Christ.
You know what?
I might get bashed for stating here at this site, but I get the impression that God is a bit of a relativist. You get judged by your own measures, and your own intentions...
I think many Christians make things too complicated....
Love your god, and love your fellow man as you love yourself.
Treat your fellow man as you would like to be treated yourself.
Everything needs to be put to the test of the above staments....
I believe many people, myself included, easily get lost in some minor doctrinial detail, and forget about the above.
However, I belive those two sentences above must never be forgotten.
Methinks there is a Christian 'conspiracy' going on regarding the salvation of the people of Africa.
This testimony is real. One who is trying to create an impression of Christianity does not expound on Grace and the Person of Jesus Christ, as Bono does here.
As a Christian, I'd say that both the President and Bono are my brothers in Christ.
(btw, I wasn't one who had problems with his working with Bono. He uses whoever is willing to accomplish what he thinks is best).
thank you
Jesus was never a little girl. :)
You know what...
I try to stay out of religious discussion here on this board, but since I have joined this thread....
Have you heard of LaVey of church of satan fame....
He based pretty much the entirity of his "religion" on Ayn Rand. Kinda thought provoking....
Now, didn't I already say..."I wish I was a better Christian?"
It combines the complex and sophisticated intricate polyrhythms of African music with the complex and sophisticated intricate counterpoint of Johann Sebastian Bach (who wrote everything for God's Glory alone), for an inspiring and uplifiting combination of praise and beauty.
I'd get a second opinion on that article if I were you.
The point of view that any particular musical element possesses characteristics of the demonic in and of itself, has long ago been debunked by the facts (and that pseudo connection has been preached for a whole lot of years).
Lololol :-)
Are you saying you don't believe in an eye for an eye?
When you read about child-rapist and murderers, you don't want to take them out and kill them for what they do to children?
I'm sure God understands where my want for retribution comes from. I'll leave it up to him to judge my heart and soul.
I thought it was understood years, decades, ago that he was Catholic.
I hope Bono is a Christian. Sure sounds like he is. Definitely sounds like he's read C.S. Lewis.
