Boston has it's own ugly skyscrapers that would have been more at home in Moscow at the time they were built...

In fact, up until recently we had very few of those in Moscow. (mainly Le Corbusier's). So, please do not get confused.
The so-called "Stalin skyscrapers" are way nicer than those plain square-on-top-of-rectangle buildings you posted. You may dislike the ideology that produced these wedding-cake buildings, but they do look nice. Well, they do look nice if you watch them in reality vs. on some blurry JPEG size of a matchbox.
I can understand Poles disliking the building, AFAIK from visiting Poland, their old-town architecture is totally different. And if this building reminds them of Stalin, well that is their right to dislike it.
Personally I would be very much against demolishing those "Stalin skyscrapers" in Moscow. They are beautiful, especially at the summertime, early in the morning.
This is Moscow State University.

Well I must say that the buildings look much more impressive in your pictures. I would like to see more building of that type in America. Unfortunately, no corporation would pay that much extra to erect buildings with such fine detail. That's why we have all those cookie-cutter boxes going up. Got to keep costs down and keep those shareholders happy!
There are some stunning skyscrapers over here. The Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building to name a couple. But they just don't build them like that anymore.
