Well, we could start with the ones already in prison. Something like a THIRD of prisoners currently held are illegals.
Second, the goobermint should stopping interpreting an illegals 'country or origin' as the place they originated from and change it too the common sense meaning- the country you were last in before you crossed into the US.
If they come through Mexico, send them back to Mexico...no 'approval' by the receiving country needed.
Haul them to the border, kick open the door, run them across the border and lock the gate behind them. It's THEIR problem if they can't survive there.....should have thought of that beforehand!
FOX certainly has no problem with HIS southern border being closed tighter than a miser's purse!
Plus, those people have friends and family, who can raise a huge stink. And they have friends and family. Etc. etc.
Since the family/friends of illegally are probably illegal themselves, just follow the above!
Like, deport some, fine the others and make sure the children are assimilating: speak English, adopt American values, become proud patriotic citizens of tomorrow.
The ONLY ones allowed to stay should be able to meet these criteria as well as any others required of a legal immigrant:
No trouble with the law in at least 10 years
Full time employment since arrival
A sponsor who is financially and legally responsible for them (NO goobermint welfare, food stamps, etc)
A maximum of 1 year to learn basic English.
If they set so much as ONE TOE out of line...whoop! Back over the border they go!
See my #40.
Trebb, that is exactly my position, for the most part. It's a problem, but there are few viable plans. Right now, we need a wall, stem the flow of new illegals, we need to tighten laws and we need to assimilate those we already got.
And Balding Eagle, the point is to assimilate THEM, not for you to assimilate. I sure as hell don't want you waving a mexican flag. I want THEM waving american flags and going "America #1! Republicans in '08! Viva!" Somewhat tongue in cheek, but you know...
The whole point is that strong, growing countries need new immigrants to freshen things up. Just not such huge numbers or so unqualified people that the system is overwhelmed. Keep it controlled, and keep them qualified and relatively educated. Then assimilate them.
You'll need to post that every time, as your stance on these issues seems to indicate that you support just the opposite happening.
Hrmmm...I need to think about this. Ilegals in prison should be deported instantly, though. No question. As to the other points...
Also, many of the friends and family would be legal immigrants, if not citizens. Plus, many leftist groups would have a propaganda field day. I think it's best to grandfather in some of the ones we already have. But, as you said, those who meet the requirements for a legal immigrant anyways.
I thought it would be obvious, but I will try. Turn THEM into Americans, not you into a Mexican. My stance on these issues is shut the border as fast and hard as we can to try to cut our losses, and then try to work with what we have. Try to educate and assimilate them, distribute them, take them off the government dole and make sure their children (the most important part of this problem, in my opinion) are assimilating and becoming proud Americans.
"You can try deporting about 30 million people. I think you'll find it quite difficult. And grossly immoral. And it brings back shades of the Nazis."
The Nazis killed the entire european branch of my family.
I disagree greatly.
The Nazis exterminated citizens, based on their religion or ethnicity.
We need to deport people who are not citizens based on their legal status.
Your comment of moral equivalency is disturbing, and it smells like liberal.
The Nazis killed half the European branch of my family. I am not saying deportation of illegal immigrants is morally equivalent to the Nazi's genocide. If it is was unclear I apologize. I am saying that to deport 30 million people you would need a huge, nationalized and complex logistical system that would remind me of the Nazis systems.
That's all I am saying. Deporting 30 million people is hugely difficult, and begs extremely negative comparisons.
Every day is a propaganda field day to a leftist...if they don't have a reason, they'll just make one up!
I'd like to add a 3 strike rule be implimented- if someone is apprehended illegally crossing the border 3 times, he/she should get the death penalty.
It would seriously cut back the repeat offenders!
Also, legal visitors on short term visas should be required to wear a non-removable bracelet (or some other item) with a GPS tracking device.
At least we'd be able to FIND them once they've overstayed their visas.
People who are in our country but not OF our country are here by our consent, and should be held to a very high standard of conduct.
This may sound harsh, but face it.
No country has remained viable when it allowed uncontrolled immigration. It caused the fall of Rome, and the United States is not immune to the laws of nature, no matter how omnipotent our political leaders think they are.
The barriers consists of steel beams planted five feet deep into a concrete base underground, Geary said. The beams, filled with concrete and steel bars, alternate in height 5 feet and 7 feet tall so as to prevent someone from placing a makeshift ramp on top of them and driving over the barriers, Geary said.So it does noting for the walk-ins. Israel has a much better fencing idea.
Israel does have good fence builders. Let's contract it out to them. ;)
but then again -
"The U.S. Justice Department says the 110-metre tunnel runs from a depth of one to three metres and is reinforced with iron rebar and 2x6 wood supports"

You and me both.
Although I have only the smallest amount of circumstantial proof, I believe serious changes are taking place all across the country. I think a focus has been put on the areas like Michigan and others where they most likely went to Bush, but because of fraud got called for Kerry.
I'm sure more could be done, but voter fraud is being addressed by the Republicans. I think our major problem; motor-voter will be reduced when this drivers license goes to a national standard.
On issues, and on a national election, the Democrats/Liberals can't win in a fair fight.
