If it is so obvious, it should not be hard for you to explain what would be American interest to have permanent military presence in Central Asia countries and in trying to eliminate Chinese and Russian influence in that region (extremely futile and pointless variant of Big Game)
Perhaps, you should ask Bush, why he needs these bases. You know very well that there is a lot of natural resources in Central Asia and American concerns are involved in various countries and plans to expand their business. If not Americans then someone else would take care of it.
In my view it would be costly, harmful, provocative and destabilizing overextension of American power. This would not be in antibody's interest and the least in the interest of America.
Stronger is always the winner. At least I know what to expect from US. Dont forget about EU, sooner or later Southern Caucasus will be inside of the EU.
In my view you follow a specific attitude present in a faction of Polish opinion dating from beginning of XIX century that Russia is source of all evil and that ANY, ANY anti-Russian action is noble and beneficial to the mankind. Be it Napoleonic invasion of 1812 or Islamist terror based in Caucasus.
I think that you have flat horizons, because you talking over and over in nations category. I would have other opinion about the Russian influences if this country would be ruled by reasonable politicians. Unfortunately actually Russia is ruled by ex-KGB mafia for whom diplomacy is equal with energetic threads. I know that you will ignore this statement, like always but I repeat that Im against Kremlin not against Russian nation.
"In the 1990s, having the choice between Taliban or pro-Russian Northern Alliance what would be your choice?
In Poland? There is no sense to talk about such fantasies like Taliban in Poland. In Afghanistan I would prefer the Russian but not guys like Karimov. I would consider Akaevs candidature.
Having to chose between Basayev or Putin whom would you chose?
Putin, of course.
Do you approve naming places in Warsaw after Chechen warlords?
In dont understand what you mean saying warlords. I dont support naming places in Poland after terrorists like Basayev. You mean probably Dudayev, I dont thinks that he is so special to have street in Poland. But I dont have anything against him, he died many years ago and then even the Russians didnt called him a terrorist. Conclusion is that Poland is democratic country and if Council of Warsaw want to commemorate Dudayev, then they have the right to do so.
About Kosovo, did you side with Serbs or with Albanian Muslims?"
I told you once that in Balkans Im neutral, that is why rarely participate in Balkan threads on FR. Every side in this region is guilty, they slaughtered themselves like idiots, why should I support anybody? Im in favor to save todays borders (Serbia, Bosnia). I dont count Montenegro, cause they have some other agreements with Serbia, they will do what they want.
Now you answer to my question:
What profits would Ukraine and Poland have if Ukraine would be ruled by Ukrainian mafia controlled by Kremlin? What profits Poland has now when Belarus is controlled by friendly to Kremlin Lukashenko? If Belarus and Ukraine should be under Russian sphere of influence then why not Poland? Why you dont care at all about Polish strategic interests but Russian or maybe rather Kremlin's?

"In the 1990s, having the choice between Taliban or pro-Russian Northern Alliance what would be your choice? between Basayev or Putin whom would you chose? About Kosovo, did you side with Serbs or with Albanian Muslims?" These are all false choices. If we must choose between one tyrant or another, everyone should just stay out of it.
In Afghanistan and Iraq, the US (and Britain and Poland) is not accepting these false choices. It went into A. and I. and is attempting to remake their societies at considerable expense...not replace one dictator with another that is more to its liking.

Until it overextends itself by biting off more than it can chew. Until it overextends itself by foolishly trying to be strong everywhere, except where it matters. History is littered with the corpses of empires that came to ruin because they thought like you.

I didnt wrote that US must do everything alone, in Central Asia you may cooperate with EU and India (especially if Russia is so close with China now). Beside in opposition to previous empires your geographical position is a lot better. The only thing that you could lose is opportunity to make good business there.
