Today on History Channel was a program on the real Black Hawk Down event. When the writer of the book was going to Somalia to do research for the book, which then became the movie, he asked the State Department for assistance. They esentially told him not to go, it was too dangerous. By the video contained in the program, the country looked like it was still in disarray, just about every single male carried a weapon, and it appeared that there was no infrastructure or new construction to speak of. I would not doubt there is some economic activity happening, but with no real central government to maintain stability, long term prospects still would appear grim. Maybe some day the people will learn the error of their ways and do away with the warload mentality.
