I personally have no problem with that threat. But you stated something that was not true. You made Russia out to be a nation that had no military threat potential. That is false. It constitutes a large threat potential. Many "mainstream" analysts (if not all of them) concur.
The only threat the Russians could present to the US would be if they launched an all out nuclear attack. They are not that insane. If you think they would do it, then you have a major problem. My wife is a very good psychologist.

Considering the amount of hackers in Russia, just how long would you give the firewall of Russia? I'd say within a month it would look like swiss cheese.

LOL, those guys are good, real good. To be honest if there is anything to fear coming out of Russia it would be their hackers.

I think it is presumptuous to assume anything about what another country would or would not do. Many men have ruined their reputations by assuming wrongly.

You have apparently assumed that all of the "hackers" are independent operators and that there are not at least some "hackers" working for the FSB, GRU and SVR.

RE: The FSU fell before the Internet was up and going.
100% wrong. The internet was well underway by 1990. Where do you think email and web addresses of the type "somedude@someplace.co.su" and "www.someplace.co.su" came from?
Oh and one other thing. I actually worked for several years at a tech company that was one of the earliest ones into the USSR, back during the Gorby period. We were dealing specifically with the internet there. Oh, but I know, I am just imagining things ...

Apparely you have never heard of mutual assured destruction. However, you cannot admit that works since it conflicts with your agenda.

I am well aware of the theory of MAD. That's what it is, a theory. Not a proven, demonstrated fact.

So, I take it that you think all the info about Russian aid to those countries is what, a bunch of lies? Propaganda? Please explain your position.

"If Russia launched its ICBMs the threat would explode into your life within the hour."
And theirs would explode in return when we repaid them in kind.

In defense of the "theory" of MAD, I offer the observation: "So far, so good."
Conversely, no one's ever shown me a convincing theory of victory for a nuclear war.

Yes, I do believe they employ programmers for various reasons and they do monitor the Internet. That said, I do not believe they do so with a malicious intent. You see a bogeyman under every rock.

GOP_1900AD, thank you for the bar-none unintentionally funniest post on this thread...

Maybe you have mistaken
this for the firewall?

Cibula is a generic Slavic word for onion. It is also quite common in west-russian dialects and obviously there is such word in the Czech language as well.
To: RussianBoor
Nope. That's not what I was referring to.

RE: You see a bogeyman under every rock.
Huh? I simply stated that it was foolish and naive to assume that *all* "hackers" were lone actors. That is not seeing a bogeyman under every (or any) rock. Tell me this - do you think that countries like the US, UK and Japan DO NOT have our own "hackers" working for our militaries and intelligence orgs? That's a matter of public record. So, why WOULDN'T Russia also have them?

We each hold our own opinions regarding whether or not victory is meaningful in a war of mass destruction. Interestingly, some of the most obvious "non-MAD" views on this topic have been written by non Western individuals.
