The first ping message was drolly amusing, but I was so busy congratulating myself that I forgot to address it. Ironic, as I'm sure you'll agree, given the content. Please FREEPMAIL me if you want on, off, or alter the "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" PING list --

LOL........I know what my "deep roots" are. Anyone want an authentic Hungarian goulash recipe? :-)

What bothers me is that I remember reading a while back about some group trying to patent peoples DNA. How do we now this isnt some sort of way to just get as many patentable samples as possible? And what are they going to do with the DNA information that they collect? Somethings just not quite right...

This awesome, Blam. I'm gonna do it and have my twin sister do the maternal kit as well. This is gonna be interesting.
Hope everyone who participates makes a point of sharing their results if they are comfortable doing so.

National Geographic When I was a kid, we were taught that one NEVER, EVER, EVER--NOT EVER--cuts up a National Geographic. Now, I regularly rip 'em apart to use the pictures. I buy 'em at Goodwill for the specific purpose of "editing" them for my own use.

Did you know you had some east Asian roots? I think his report stated that everyone who isn't of African descent has this root.

With a simple and painless cheek swab you can sample your own DNA. You'll submit the sample through our secure, private, and completely anonymous system, then log on to the project Web site to track your personal results online.

I think his report stated that everyone who isn't of African descent has this root. The analysis seems to be broken up into five segments, starting in Africa and migrating outward:
- M168: "Eurasian Adam" from Africa (31K-79K years ago)
- M89: 45K years ago -- arose from M168 and moved out of Africa
- M9: Man in Iran/South Central Asia first had this marker.
- M175: Early Siberians who descended from M9 and whose marker is very common in East Asia.
- m_f: Arose 40+ years ago. Residing in California and munching contentedly on fast food. Turn-offs: Negative people and sudden loud noises. Turn ons: Walks on the beach and FR.
To: bannie
Martin's marker is specific to east Asia; rather, it is the M168 marker that all non-African men share. Mine turned out to be the M343, which is R1b and western European in origin. Specifically, the "proto-Celtic" or Atlantic mode of the R1b. I share this with many Spanish, French, inhabitants of southern England and the majority of Irishmen. These were the cave-painting Cro Magnons.

This really is interesting! If I could just put aside my tinfoil hat--and come up with $100 spare ones--I'd jump in that gene pool with y'all!

I'm sure the program will be on for some time. Perhaps you could catch it. It was very interesting to say the last. I think it was called Journey of Man.

How interesting! I'm Norwegian and Finnish but my children are related to the early Dutch settlers (Anneke Jans, Bogardus, Kierstad, Westervelt) and are part Irish to boot. Interesting combinations we find when we look back far enough.
