We're drowning in illegals.
I prefer the immigrants that come here honestly and legally. The ones that don't take advantage of our system.
To: Jim Robinson
Yes!
Lets keep the illegal aliens out!

Sir, I remember the story of a Texas rancher who shot at illegals on his land.
I do not remember the outcome of the case.
But, he argued he was defending the U.S. against invasion.
To: Jim Robinson
If we are being invaded by illegal immigrants, should we put the military on the border as Rep Steve King suggests or call out the militia as the Constitution calls for?
Or are we not being invaded?
Or is the military and the militia one and the same?
To: Jim Robinson
Hi Jim, some have argued that the National Guard to be the militia, that is, thats what the gun grabbers argue.

I think the situation has long since passed from being an annoyance to being a crisis. The Government has been negligent, and it must act now, and broadly. First, secure the borders, even if it takes the Military and/or Militia. Second, begin a rational national policy regarding the deportation of those who are caught sneaking in.

By equating the NG or other military force as militia we would only be bolstering the anti-2nd amendment crowd.

There could be much slicing and dicing on that issue. But I think it is a salient point that only after what, WWII? WWI? did we have a standing army.
I don't think the answer to our illegal immigrant problem can be solved just by militarizing the border. A major font of illegals are visa overstayers who enter at airports on valid visas and then just.....stay.
We need a complete overhaul of the system, and certainly better secured Northern and Southern borders should be part of that.
Gee, will Americans do THOSE jobs, or do we have to hire Mexicans to guard our border?

Many training sorties out of Luke AFB were and are cancelled due to illegals trekking through the Barry Goldwater Bombing range.

I would suggest a glance at an Afghanistan map before saying putting soldiers on the border is a good idea. Look at it, think about it. It's as plain as the nose on someone's face.

I'd like to know what "militia" we would be calling up? If you are talking about the National Guard, then yes. If you are talking about rag-tag militias, then no.
Could you please specify.

The second amendment refers to militia meaning all able body adult males (at least at the time it was written) Militia refers to what is now the national guard.

I've always assumed the militia is basically every able bodied male citizen. That's why we all have guns (or at least one of the reasons). Hmmm... in todays world, guess we'd better make that every able bodied citizen. Hmmmm... or maybe just every citizen.
